It didn't take me long to give up on playing D2 through battle.net even with my friends. I just started hosting games for my roomates and friends. Just a little coordination through IM and we were playing.MrPopo wrote:Have you not been in a chat channel in D2 in the past 10 years?

Re: WTF Blizzard
I really don't get all the hate, like others have said D1 and 2 didn't support mods, and really did anyone play D2 because of singleplayer? I mean yeah, it's plenty of fun on your own, but playing with other people was, and still is, where it's at. Whenever I play D2 I exclusively play online, even if I'm playing by myself, so that if my friends get online I can use my current character instead of having separate characters.
And anyone bothered by the actual money transactions clearly never played D2. It was one of the first games to get notorious for such dealings over eBay and such, and it didn't make it any less fun.
Oh and the whole constant internet connection thing, someone mentioned that your connection can go down. Yes this does in fact happen, and assuming that D3 follows SC2, it won't affect your game whatsoever except for disabling achievements. People need to lighten up and just enjoy the damn games.

I would definitely be one of those people who enjoyed Diablo 1/2 solely offline. Eh doesn't matter anymore, Torchlight is definitely more for me than D3.

Re: WTF Blizzard
I played D2 entirely offline as well. I probably can't take it online anyway, as I bought it used, and whoever had it before me lost his CD key. I ended up using one from a list on some shady looking Russian website. I figure it's not piracy, since I definitely own the game. It had a legitimate key once upon a time.BananaXX wrote:I would definitely be one of those people who enjoyed Diablo 1/2 solely offline. Stuff like that makes me wish game companies wouldn't bother with CD keys. Those determined to pirate the game will just find a work-around, whilst average guys like me get shafted when we find a used copy missing the key.

It keeps the pirates off of Battle.net. And you can actually get Blizzard to reissue you a CD-Key; go on the Battle.net website and go through their support documentation.BoringSupreez wrote:I played D2 entirely offline as well. When I gave bnet a try, I had no problem making a new toon because I was starting the game over to play with other people I knew who were also starting fresh. I soon grew tired of having to worry about logging into the few characters I had in case I didn't play with a certain group of people for a while and the bullshit that occurred in the lobby with spammers and scammers. I gave up on bnet and just hosted my own games for friends. Most of the time I was playing with my roommates anyway, so going through bnet was ridiculous and I then had to worry about any internet issues.
Is he stupid? Like everyone that played D2 made one character and that's it. Yes some people will have done that, but those are the people who played the game for a week and then moved on to something else. I don't know anyone who played D2 that had any less then half a dozen characters so they were making new ones often anyway. Even people with the mega maxed out toons would speedrun and get characters high level in a hurry so if they decided to start a character on one or the other it must have not been a huge deal for them."Let's say we want to create an offline capacity," he explained. "You're introducing a separate user flow, a separate path that players are going to go down. And, at the end of the day, how many people are going to want to do that?"
Bridenbecker continued, mentioning the fact that offline characters in "Diablo 2" could not be used for online play on Blizzard's servers, thus forcing people to start from scratch.

Re: WTF Blizzard
Real ID by itself is enough for me to boycott Blizzard. I bought Starcraft 2, registered my account, and then noticed that my real name was being displayed in the game, and that my real name was required to use some of the communication features. I complained to Blizzard but they refused to help me out.
The sign up process was a fucking trick. It asked for your first and last name, and also a nickname. I assumed that the nickname was for the games, and my real name was just for registration purposes. Shame on me for trusting Blizzard, because they ended up using my real name in the game itself. Totally outrageous and unacceptable.
I used to have a lot of interest in Diablo III but now I refuse to play it. Fuck Blizzard and fuck Activision.

You don't seem to understand how the Real Id thing works. Real Id is only displayed to friends who have added you by using your email address (instead of your nickname). If you're doing the random matchmaking people can only see your nickname. If you only allow people to add you using your nickname then they can't see your Real Id either. On the flip side, if you want to do cross title chat you need to be using Real Id.Inazuma wrote:The sign up process was a fucking trick. It asked for your first and last name, and also a nickname. Also, don't blame Blizzard for your unwillingness to read about the Real Id system.

You said it. I can't do cross chat without using my real name. That's bullshit. Blizzard refused to change my name.MrPopo wrote:You don't seem to understand how the Real Id thing works.
