Not exactly the right forum for PC questions like this, but this is the only forum I frequent, so I thought I'd see if anybody knew.
I recently upgraded to an Intel i5-2500K and a Biostar TP67XE motherboard and it has 2 8-pin CPU power connectors. My recently purchased power supply only had one 8-pin power and that's what I plugged in and everything is working.
Someone told me that the second is for "stability" when over-clocking, but I can't find anything to back that claim up on the Interwebs... Anyone have any knowledge on this?

Re: 2nd 8-pin ATX CPU Power connector on motherboard
It is just for extra wattage for overclocking.
If you have an extra 8-PIN EPS your using, you wont do any harm by plugging it in, but if your not overclocking, I wouldn't bother.

So if I did want to overclock do you see any problems with using something like this: http://www.directron.com/ad202.html?gsear=1

Well, it depends if your power supply is up to the task. It is like plugging 2 things into a socket or plugging 2 power strips in and having 10 things plugged in. If the stuff pulling power is too much, there will be problems.

According to my Power Supply's documentation I have 6 12V rails. Not sure if each "bunch" of cables is a rail, but if so I have at least two or three bunches of cables not even being used.

Generally the bundles are rails. So that Y adapter would do best plugged into one from each of 2 unused bundles.
