They are OK at first, then the ventilation spots get marked on your back, ass and even your neck. A sweaty ass is better than an ass with lots of square marks.Hobie-wan wrote:Blargh. I'm not planning on sitting in it with only my birthday suit on.KillerJuan77 wrote: They are OK at first, then the ventilation spots get marked on your back, ass and even your neck. A sweaty ass is better than a ass with lots of square marks.

Blargh. I could not manage to make it over there today to check their chairs, and I won't get another chance until at least Wednesday. Sorry. I can't say for certain that they have a mesh seat, but I do recall that they look more like the matrix than the boss. If you still haven't pulled the trigger by then, maybe I can check.Hobie-wan wrote:Cool. If I make it over there today, I'll check which brand they have, because I remember liking the chair pretty well.

Actually, it can still happen if you are fully clothed.Hobie-wan wrote:I'm not planning on sitting in it with only my birthday suit on.KillerJuan77 wrote: They are OK at first, then the ventilation spots get marked on your back, ass and even your neck. What are you doing to your chair?KillerJuan77 wrote:Actually, it can still happen if you are fully clothed.Hobie-wan wrote:I'm not planning on sitting in it with only my birthday suit on.KillerJuan77 wrote: They are OK at first, then the ventilation spots get marked on your back, ass and even your neck. Sure, I have a metal patio set that has metal mesh seats that leave marks on you, but the mesh on these chairs is more like trampoline material or something. It's really fine and pliable.

Re: Screw swamp ass - Lets talk new chairs
I may have stumbled across a solution tonight. I stopped in a Garden Ridge Pottery earlier and they had some mesh patio chairs that were $100 for 2. They also had a scratch and dent display model that was $35 I believe. They had a mildly springy bit and a swivel. While at the store I was thinking on how I might adapt the swivel bit on the chair to the wheeled base of my existing chair. On the way home it occurred to me that the springy bit would probably bolt to the entire chair base, I might just need some random scrap steel plate or rails and some nuts and bolts to adapt it. The chair had arms, but I might live with them for the breatheability, or I might be able to reverse them so they still help hold up the back, but are out of the way.
I think I'm going to need to go back.

Re: Screw swamp ass - Lets talk new chairs
Ok, so picked up the chair last night and started looking at the issue. My starting point with my current chair and the mesh deck chair.

The Deck chair spins and had some metal bits acting as a sort of spring to allow the chair to bend a little. I needed to drill some extra holes in the base of my existing chair before I could try to mount the new bits on it. Obviously I couldn't do that at 2 AM, so drilling was done on my lunch break today.

After dinner and things I had a go at sticking the chair on the base. When bolted to the back holes directly it was too far back and I'd have been in danger of flipping backwards so I put the 2 long 'spring' pieces back on to move it a few inches forward. The chair was made to only be supported by this middle bar which seems kinda dumb to me. I'm going to fashion a front bracket to mount to the front of the base as well to make sure it is stable.

But for now I'll be ventilated tomorrow until I can do more. I also had to put the arms on to give the back strength, but I'm thinking of what I can do to that later. I guess I'll also find out if this is comfortable to sit in for hours or not. If it isn't I can put my chair back the way it was with only 2 extra holes drilled in it and I'd just have a new patio chair.
Behold - Frankenchair.
