3DS price dropped to $170

Wow, that was fast. Nintendo is obviously trying to right the ship in a hurry (http://kotaku.com/5825489/nintendos-har ... ing-so-hot). I wonder if the folks who bought one at launch feel taken...

This + the 20 free downloads (if I buy it before Aug 12th and price adjust at Best Buy or some such later) makes me want to give the unit a second look, but there's still not a single game that's currently out that really interests me :? . That's the biggest problem, not the price.

I also wonder if this is a precursor to the 3DSXL

This is a huge drop for Nintendo, I can't remember the last time I've seen them drop one of their handhelds by this much money. I did buy 2 at launch, was able to sell one and keep the free/discounted stuff from Amazon and basically wound up with 1 3DS at full price and two free games. Since games are worth at least $60 new (Street Fighter and Pilotwings) I'm not too upset about this.

I figure I got my extra $20 worth of value of of playing it for the past couple months. I see on other boards a lot of people are royally pissed. I think it's good Nintendo is at least throwing us early adopters a nice bone in the 20 free games. My system will get a lot more play after downloading the free games. Plus some are exclusive to us.

I was on the fence on getting one but seeing a price drop in my price range, it appears I will pick one up after all. Smart business decision by Nintendo seeing the abysmal sales of the 3ds.

so apparently a lot of you guys that already bought one will get some free games since Ninty knows that such a drastic price drop for the Virtual B-- I mean, 3DS is going to piss some of y'all off.

I wouldn't buy a 3DS if it were $1. I'll wait for the 3DS Lite with at least 10 hour battery life.

Definitely gives Nintendo an advantage when the PSV arrives, but I would rather pay more and not get junk.

I played a 3DS once for five minutes and got a headache. I'm never buying one, they're loads of shit.

Though it does say the GBA games are for the ambassador buyers and "currently have no plans" to be be available afterwards.

yeah the 3D really bothered me on it... so it seems silly to me to get a 3DS and not use the 3D.

An interesting and wise decision, but it's still more than twice as much what I'd be willing to pay. The game library and region locking are a major problem.

I've only played it on demo stations but, about 30+ minutes each time. I've never had any headache, eye ache, or anything bother me at all. I have had to adjust the slider on some games cuz at max it did kinda make my eyes hurt focusing on the 3D but sliding it down lower made it just fine. Dunno how it'd be if I played for a hour or more at a time though.
So for those who do get "bothered" or headaches, do you guys wear glasses or have a history of similar ailments? :?

But with the topic, it's very tempting after the price drop (GBA games I play on my DSL :) so I'm not concerned with being an "ambassador" especially how there were no 'gotta have' launch titles) but I'm pretty sure the 3DSL is around the corner with how sales have been. Wonder if it'll stay at $170 even for the Lite version...
