The big deal is that...it's obviously trying to be more like the Nolan Batman movies.
Good. I like my comic book dialogue to stay in comic books.

Love and other drugs

Is it weird that I thoroughly enjoyed it? On rotten tomatoes it got like a 45%. The chief complaint was that the characters were flat and didn't grow. I understand and perhaps agree with that criticism.... But I still really liked it. Perhaps I'm just over the indie post postmodern romance where the couple splits up and all that is left is some strange relic of love that has been.

Sorry that just doesn't do it for me...

And y'all can flame me for liking romance dramedies lol

Much preferred over the remake. The only parts I didn't like were the still framed, black and white, screaming shots of death. It just sort of ruined the flow of the film (It reminds me of the last shot of Sleepaway Camp, only without the green tint). Other than that, fun watch.

odd. The Ring is one of the only J-Horror-->US remakes that I preferred the remake of. Now the 2nd one was shit, but the first I adored. I mean, I like Ringu and all, but just preferred the remake.
Shit, I thought I was alone in thinking that! Always did like the american remake a lot.

Ring Two, however, is among the worst films I've ever seen.
I agree, I'm against remakes but Ringu and The Ring are such different films, Ringu is more subtle and more creepy while The Ring is more clear about everything (Ringu left some "untied knots") and at the same time it is a much less subtle film. Both are great films and at the same time it's interesting to see how such a simple plot can result on 2 more or less completely different flicks.

The big deal is that A: the previous Spider-Man movies aren't that old at all, and B: it's obviously trying to be more like the Nolan Batman movies.
There are 2 things that I hate about it:

1. I hate the costume changes. Spider-Man's costume is classic and unique at the same time. Why mess with it?

2. No super-villain. I didn't see a super-villain anywhere in that trailer.

However, the first complaint I can live with if the movie is good otherwise. And the 2nd complaint will probably be answered as time goes on, this is the first trailer only after all. I'm sure we'll see a super-villain of some sort in this movie. If not, then this movie probably will suck.

I'm also not happy that we'll be going over the origin again for the umpteenth time. But it's nothing new to me as a comic reader. I've read Spider-Man's origin (as well as Batman's, Superman's, and Green Lantern's) at least a 100 times over. They like to revisit origins a lot because it really defines the character which is important for new readers. The same applies to this movie. The newbs need to know what makes Spider-Man tick.

I've learned over the last decade's glut of comic movies to reserve judgment until I actually see the movie. Spider-Man taught me this one. I was so annoyed about the organic webshooters in the movie rather than the mechanical webshooters from the comics while reading about it in pre-production. But then when I finally saw the movie when it came out, I didn't care about it one freaking bit because it's an amazing piece of comic-book movie.

The Ring really left a lot of threads hanging too, especially for an American film.

I've always been interested in reading the original novels, personally.

Me too, but it took them 10 years to translate Audition, so Ringu is probably going to take 3000 years to translate  .

speaking of J-Horror, which I generally don't like (surprisingly?) have you all seen Uzimaki? That's one brilliant film that I urge all horror fans to see.

Oh and I just watched You Again, starring miss Kristen Bell.

Never have seen the Uzumaki movie, but I have read the manga, which was completely great (if a tad ridiculous at times.). Junji Ito makes some of the best horror comics around imo.
