The $2.99 games at my local GameStops are all either total crap (games I would never buy), or they're in yellow envelopes in the "no case" boxes on the front counter. If I've got to provide my own case, print my own cover, and do without the instructions, I might as well burn my own disc too. It won't change the world, but it's not much of a reason to shop there either.

Hell, if I *did* want to pay money for a disc-only PS2 game, I could get the same price at a pawn shop.
I think I've bought about 10 games under $5 at GameStop(s) in the past week. All were complete, as I only buy complete games. Just saying. Just cuz yr GS sucks doesn't mean they all do. So there IS reason for some of us to shop there.

Who works there does make a difference. My local shops are usually pretty good. However, when I do have a problem, it is usually in a big way.... but one of the two shops close to me liquidated all stock older then current gen, and the other is thinking about it. I know they don't except handhelds of any kind at one store.

And Walmart is good for me, because I shop there a lot anyways. (Hey, don't judge.) On the online store they often have a thing where if you preorder the game in the last week or two before release, you can get a 20$ giftcard with it. WIN!
Systems: Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, N64, Gamecube, Xbox 360

WTB: Boxes for a silver Gamecube System(and a hyperport cover), and a box for an Ice Blue N64 console. Will pay 7.50 for each and shipping.

My local GameStops (there are several) mostly have friendly, helpful staff--but a completely useless selection of games. :(

Yeah, similar. To me, the point of going to a specialized retailer is the harder to find stuff. If they either don't have it, or have it in poor condition, then that defeats the purpose. If all I want is the latest AAA release, I can just as well grab that while I'm at Target/Wal-Mart/etc for whatever else.

I'll still occasionally head in and take a look at their bargain used games - but I've been conditioned not to bother with much more than that. Even then, a lot of times the stuff they've got in the bargain bin is a couple dollars more brand-new online, without stickers on everything.

I have the same problem. The employees are fine, but their stock is almost always in terrible condition. The PS3 section is the only one I hardly look at now, because for some reason PS3 games are more likely to come with the original box and manual than other systems there.
