The Best Multi-Platform Games of All Time

Post by racketboy »

Ok, this may be a big task, but I want to see what we can pull off.
- Name some of the best multi-platform games you can think of.
- List what platforms they were on and try to order them in order of superiority (best == first)
- Feel free to add a few comments on what made a certain version better.

Examples:
Resident Evil (1): Gamecube > Playstation > Saturn
Gamecube version is actually a remake

Skies of Arcadia: Gamecube > Dreamcast
Gamecube version goes by title "Skies of Arcadia Legends" and features some gameplay tweaks in addition to slightly better graphics

Street Fighter II (and its variants):
Dreamcast > Saturn > 3DO > Playstation > SNES > Genesis (I missed some and I may be off a bit)

The Last Blade 2: Neo-Geo > Dreamcast > Playstation 2

Final Fantasy VII
PC > Playstation

(The Playstation game was probably the most involving game I ever played at that time and the PC version took all of that cleaned it up and added more content. This game was also the first to blow me away by making me have emotions for characters in a game.)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Splatterhouse
Arcade > TurboGrafx-16

(The arcade version had a LOT better graphics and more gore compared to the watered down, yet very good TG-16 port)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Smash T.V.
Arcade > SNES > NES

(Playing this game in the arcade was amazing! You had what felt like hundreds of guys coming at you at one time. The SNES version really captured the arcade feel, But tamed it down a bit and covered up some breasts  . The NES version........The less said the better!(SUCKED horribly!)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Arcade > NES > PC

(If I could get back the quarters I spent in this game I could have probably bought all of the action figures I begged my parents for  . The arcade version felt like you were playing the cartoon! I played the NES game at Nintendo Powerfest 1990, I was really amazed that my nintendo could pull off those kind of graphics! The PC game was really bad, The graphics were lacking a lot of color and the sounds were off or not even there.)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mortal Kombat
Arcade > SNES > Sega CD > Genesis > Game Gear > Game Boy

(The first time I saw this game I watched Scorpion torch someone, That was the best day of my life  . The arcade was the first and only game that made me feel like I was controlling real people, The sounds and atmosphere were great! The big battle back in 1994 were between the SNES and the Genesis versions. The SNES had spot on graphics AND sounds, But it lacked the blood and gore of the arcade version. The Genesis version had all of the blood and gore intact, But the graphics were dumbed down and the sound was horrible. Sega CD had perfect sound and the full motion video from the arcade, But looked almost just like the Genesis version. Game Gear and Gameboy were close to the same game except for Sega's system had all of the blood and gore and Nintendo was again kid friendly, But both had a limited amount of characters to choose from.)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Revolution X
Arcade > 3DO > SNES > Genesis

(When gun games were lacking you took whatever you could get, and at the time I think this was it :P . In the arcade the built in speaker system really sent all of the sound and music through your whole body! I really think this game helped me to lose most of my hearing. The graphics were pretty good and there were lot's of power ups and levels. The 3DO version was nearly identical to the arcade version and the (UGLY ORANGE) gun made it that much more like the arcade at home. SNES and Genesis lost all of the music from the arcade and most of the sounds, SNES 1uped the Genesis in both sound and graphics but at least Genesis had the menacer and not an arm cannon like the super scope 6!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Virtua Fighter
Saturn > Arcade > 32X > Genesis

(I think this game was truly the "Next Level"! I remember standing there with my dad almost hypnotized by the screen the first time we saw it :D. As amazing as the arcade was the Saturn really polished it up with it's Vitual Fighter Remix. 32X had a really nice looking version that was ALMOST on par with the Saturn version(Not the remix version of course). Sega made a game that was called virtua fighter for the Genesis, It had the same characters and levels but it was all in 2D. The game was kinda neat on it's own merrits, But was a completely different kind of game compared to it's big brother!)

Panzer Dragoon on Tiger Electronics? are you talking those lcd handhelds or game.com? What is that? Why do you prefer NES Bonk to PC Engine?

No, Tiger Electronics

Oh, and I'm just listing every port of a specific title sorted by release date.

UbiSoft assault time.

Beyond Good & Evil
PC>XBOX>GC>PS2
(Pretty good on all systems.)

Prince of Persia
PC>XBOX>GC>PS2
(PC wins if you have a PS2 controller adaptor. It has just enough buttons to do everything possible)

Splinter Cell
PC>XBOX>GC>PS2
(The GC and PS2 versions were seriously crappy. Levels were heavily shrunken down and chopped up.)

Virtua Fighter 2

Aracde/Saturn aaaand SEGA MEGA DRIVE/GENESIS i even had the original cartridge for it but Vf2 without the 3d is not a good idea

get the rom here if intrested
http://www.planetemu.net/index.php?sect ... &id=427984

and quake altho i bet this list isnt much of a surprise

Pc/N64/Saturn (also homebrew ported to the dc it should be second but its not an official release)

im still amazed quake actually made it to the saturn and as i understand it has more detailed textures..and the n64 one was a lazy port but its better since the n64 has better fps.

Quake 2

Pc/N64/Psx

granted neither of the console ports were that good..but its kinda obvious here since the n64 had better graphics.

Quake 3

Pc/Dreamcast/PS2
I´d have to say that the dc one is better since it offered multiplay throuh the 56k modem..when it was released on the ps2 there was no netplay available for the ps2 and it was made only for single player / split screen..why they released q3 without netplay is beyond my understanding

it was also avialble for macs but i dont know how it compares since ive never even used a mac

and i noticed doom was mentioned but Doom 64 was not is that because its diffrent from the original ?

So that's sarcasm I take it that you think that version is better than the Saturn version? who knows maybe it's really fun?

I think he was just not ordering them in terms of quality - as he says, he puts just the release date ordering.
