Okay, status update! I spent a great deal of time yesterday level-grinding in FFVII, and I am up to Rocket Town, now. In an hour or so, I should have every playable character in the game at my disposal. :)

Here's my status update.
  • The Curse of Monkey Island (PC) Completed: 6/8
  • Half-Life (PC) about 1/3 through
  • Half-Life 2 (PC)
  • Half-Life 2: Episode 1 (PC)
  • Half-Life 2: Episode 2 (PC)
  • Ico (PS2)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX (GBC) 3/8 instruments
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (GBA)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (GBC)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (GBC)
  • Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness (GCN)
  • Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) 1/16 colossi killed
  • We ♥ Katamari (PS2)
Basically, I haven't done much at all. Trying to tackle more than one Zelda game, let alone four, was extremely stupid in hindsight. Hopefully I can at least finish Link's Awakening and SotC before the summer is over, but I'm not at all confident on SotC or any of the other ones. I just haven't had the will to play some of these games.

Super Smash Bros. (N64): Ranked top 5 in Wisconsin from Q1 2016 to Q2 2017

^ This has been my problem, too. I have allowed myself to substitute a lot of other games in these instances. Maybe you could pick a few other classic games that you have never gotten around too (some shorter ones, perhaps) and pop them in where a few of those Zelda's are?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

A good idea. I may just cut a couple since the list is 12 long anyways.

  • Backyard Baseball (PC)
  • The Curse of Monkey Island (PC) Completed: 6/8
  • Half-Life (PC)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX (GBC)
  • Penny Arcade: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness (PC)
  • Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness (GCN)
  • Shadow of the Colossus (PS2)
  • We ♥ Katamari (PS2)
Edited list. The ones I added (Backyard Baseball, Penny Arcade) I've already somewhat started.

I'm about halfway through a season of Backyard Baseball, running it on ScummVM. I played so many seasons of this game in my younger days and thought it good to play through again.

I started PA but had never completely finished it. I felt as though the concept was pretty cool, but I don't know why it didn't really hook me. In any case, I think I have a chance of completing this one before summer's done as well.

I think that's a better list, to be honest. It's much more balanced and has variety - you should have less of a chance to get burnt out.

Just tried out some Battletoads/Double Dragon.

First attempt was with Pimple and I really struggled with many different areas and one poorly designed area (an arrow points down, so I jump down, lose a life. Make sure the screen is fully pulled over to the side and jump down again, dead again) and didnt make is past the 3rd stage.

Second attempt I tried out Billy and did MUCH better. Got to and finished stage 3 with like 6 lives left. But then...... there is a level where you basically play asteroids and I lost all my lives and continues getting clobbered by rocks. I didnt realize how bad I am at asteroids. Maybe I need to dust off the ol 2600 and practice up before trying again.

Status update: I've only played Resident Evil since starting the challenge. I have 2 of the 4 crests to get to the passed the sealed door. Playing as Jill and I've already gotten the shotgun and bazooka. Last I remember I killed a giant plant using a chemical and got the armor key. Now I'm going back and unlocking a bunch of rooms. Im in the 4th level of Splinter Cell, but I haven't done anything yet. I just became Adult link in Ocarina on Time. That's all I've done.

Status update? Ok.

I haven't made a lot of progress, but here's the rundown:

Super Metroid (Super Nes) - Complete

Rayman (PS)

Working on it. I haven't played in several days though.

Harvest Moon (Super Nes)

Summer of the first year. Since I'm shooting for close to a perfect game on this one, progress has been very slow, and frankly its killing my enthusiasm. I'll finish this game one day, but I don't think it'll be by summer's end.

Resident Evil Code Veronica (Dreamcast)

Haven't even started it yet.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)

For the purposes of the challenge, complete, though I haven't marked it as such. I've cleared the required stuff and I saw the credits. I haven't collected 240 stars. Don't know if I'll bother to for the challenge. I may just leave it unfinished and save it for my own time. I'd mark it done for the list and call it good, but I don't really want anyone to call me out on not holding up my word for 100% completion for this one. Because they'd be completely right to do so.

Lightening Force (Genesis) - Complete

Paper Mario (N64)

Chapter 5. Haven't played in a while.

Fur Fighters (PS2)

Second hub. Fur Fighters is a really big game with large levels. Frankly, it can be kind of exhausting to play sometimes. It doesn't help that I played the Dreamcast version to nearly the end many years ago, so I know what I'm up against in future areas. Only reason I didn't beat it back then was because my save file was corrupted and I couldn't handle playing through it all again at the time.

Phantasy Star (SMS)

Haven't started it yet. Should probably get the hell on it too, because it'll take a lot longer than Resident Evil.

Castlevania: Rondo of Blood (PCE CD)

Stuck on stage 5, but I haven't played is several days. I need to get back to it.

I having a difficult time staying motivated for this. I find myself either being drawn to other games, or other interests entirely (such as fucking around on Racketboy for an hour  ).

I'm generally not motivated by "goals" in anything (I'm more of a desire and whims kinda guy), so I think putting myself in the structure of a challenge has hurt my enthusiasm for playing these games.

I can see that. That's probably why I haven't made up a list for this thread myself, I'd rather just play what I want and go from there. To each his own of course though, however... I do think I am 110% dead set on starting and finishing FFV sometime soon! Third times a charm, I got to the end on the PSX version years back and it's haunted me since then that I haven't finished it... so I'll start over a third time and I'm gonna do it!
