Canceled games that turned into other games?
I've always been interested by this. For instance:
Haunting Ground (PS2) supposedly started off as Clock Tower 4, but for whatever reason was abandoned and turned into a new IP.
Wu-Tang Shaolin Style (PS1) is of course the remnants of Thrill Kill.
Heavenly Guardians (PS2) was meant to be a Pocky & Rocky sequel, but once the license was lost the makers simply changed the sprites and title.
What are some other good examples of this?

Wasn't Devil May Cry suppose to be a Resident Evil sequel?

I feel like I read that too. That their was a glitch with jumping physics and they liked the way it looked so they completely changed what the game was or something?classicgamer5 wrote:Wasn't Devil May Cry suppose to be a Resident Evil sequel?

Read that it was too distant from the Resident Evil series and the horror genre in general so made it a whole new series.noiseredux wrote:I feel like I read that too. Twelve Tales: Conker 64 became Conker's Bad Fur Day.
Big change.
EDIT:
I remember reading somewhere that the original Donkey Kong was going to be a Popeye game to begin with.

I think DMC was born out of a very early Resident Evil 4 build. Ironic. It seems RE 4 was always destined to be more action oriented than other REs one way or anotherclassicgamer5 wrote:Read that it was too distant from the Resident Evil series and the horror genre in general so made it a whole new series.noiseredux wrote:I feel like I read that too. What was supposed to be a Terminator game by Sunsoft for the NES instead became Journey to Silius.
Dinosaur Planet for N64 became StarFox Adventures for Game Cube.
Silent Hill 4: The Room was originally supposed to be a new property.
The Duke Nukem Forever we were supposed to get over a decade ago became the Duke Nukem Forever we have now

I've heard a lot of mixed information about this one. From what I understand however, it was always going to be a Silent Hill game.flamepanther wrote: Silent Hill 4: The Room was originally supposed to be a new property.

How about Project Dream, an SNES (and later N64) game starring a kid with a wooden sword fighting a pirate captian that eventually became Banjo-Kazooie.
