Gamecube lid won't open?
Gamecube lid won't open?
For some reason my gamecube's lid won't open when I press the button. What happens is the button stays pressed down and stuck and the lid doesn't open. I've taken apart my gamecube and cleaned the button and put back all the components where they belong, however, the problem still isn't fixed. Anyone have this problem before? Maybe I should lube up the button?

Probably needs this, yes. Did you get the spring for the lid put back in the right place if you had the entire thing taken apart?itsmattxp wrote:Maybe I should lube up the button?

yeah I did. What type of lube do you recommend for these types of electronics?Hobie-wan wrote:Probably needs this, yes. Did you get the spring for the lid put back in the right place if you had the entire thing taken apart?itsmattxp wrote:Maybe I should lube up the button?
I opened it up again and learned that it will work perfectly when the lid is off the console but when the lid is on the console, the button doesn't work. Any advice?

Hmm, the cord for the fan and the power are on the other side of the geared bit, so they wouldn't be in the way. Isn't the lid switch on the right side? Maybe something around that?

hi itsmattxp , i had a Shell that was doing the same as yours so i investigated and found the spring was dislodged i reset it and now its fine.
Sometimes people spill Coke and other things on their Consoles and the stickiness forces Buttons to malfunction and stay pressed.
Also check that no plastic parts have broken or snapped off in the open buttons mechanism.
hope this helps

White lithium grease since you're lubing plastic. You might find some at a home improvement store or a place that sells RC cars and things since it is used for the gears in them.itsmattxp wrote: yeah I did. What type of lube do you recommend for these types of electronics?
S1mplehumar sells some little containers of it as well.

I've had this happen numerous times with early PlayStations and a few Dreamcasts. Almost always just needed a cleaning, but every once in a great while it would have to do with cracked plastic or the spring.
