Despite the name, the Dishwasher games come to mind

You fight a lot of ninja-like enemies in Dishwasher Vampire Smiles. Enemies with throwing stars, enemies who disappear, etc. Although the Dishwasher himself is very samurai, the second playable character feels very ninja.

The violent action in these games is like Ninja Scroll or a good, old school samurai blood fest like Lady Snowblood.

That's the European name, Ninja Five-0 in the US. And yes it's great and pricey.

Ninjas or games with ninjas are so common.

If you go to even a vague oriental place, expect them to pop up.
If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

Indeed they were. Those are like the ONLY stealth games I enjoy. I can't stand sneaking around and avoiding baddies constantly in games like Metal Gear Solid. I play action games to play out a power fantasy, not to run from danger like a little girl.

But in Tenchu, you sneak around so you can get the best kill. That's great! Even if you don't sneak, you can still get in sword fight if you want. And the grappling hook, damn I love that grappling hook.

Well, since we're sharing the love for one of my favorite series I'd like to join in. I love the sense of being a predator in the Tenchu games versus the sense of being the prey that you get in many other stealth games. The stealth kills are so very satisfying and empowering. The only other stealth game that did that for me was Batman:Arkham Asylum. There's actually a stealth challenge room in that game that requires you to take out all but one enemy, and then pop up without warning behind him and scare the shit out of him in the process. Little details like that are why Batman fans like me rave about the game

Anyway, I like that Tenchu REWARDS you for being super stealthy whereas in other stealth games it's just expected of you. The rewards come in the form of cool items, which make the games more fun to play. I feel like the Tenchu series allow for more finesse than other stealth games because you have more options and tools at your disposal. The series has delivered in other ways for me too. The music and atmosphere of the first Tenchu game was excellent. The second Tenchu 2 game gave me a good story, a more challenging game and the wickedly fun blow gun item. Wrath of Heaven polished the formula and gave me an awesome new character to play as

Yeah, that's kind of what I was trying to say, but just not as eloquently, lol.

I loved Batman Arkham Asylum, too. I didn't even realize how similar of a game it was (at least if you play a Stealthy Batman) to Tenchu.

I've been curious about the Hitman games because I like the idea that you have the option to stealthily play through them and take out your targets that way

What's a good starting point? I may have a copy of Hitman 2 lying around somewhere
