Hi. One of my PCs is having issues back at home and not only I'm not there to help out in person, I don't know what is the cause and how to fix it.
I can put screenshots of some of the errors here, but according to the person there, the last time the PC had been on and worked it had shutdown and started installing some updates. Then, it was off for a good while (unplugged from power) and days after when it was turned on it had problems.
What I presume happened is that the updates needed to complete installing on the next turning on of the machine it had "forgot" it was in the middle of a process and something bad happened. One thing that makes me think this is that the first error message shown was about the time and date being incorrectly set in the CMOS (that error has since disappeared though).
I know for a fact that the battery has issues, as the machine has been losing the time and date whenever I have it unplugged during the night (which is why I had stopped unplugging it during the night myself). As no one was in the house for some days though, it was unplugged for 4 days or so. I would have thought that the state of such updates were stored in a registry that would not get lost with a "memory" loss.
Now the machine on boot up gives the option to start Windows normally or attempt repair. Starting normally gives a reset shortly after, attempting repair last a bit longer before they give some more details and state that it wasn't able to repair.
What can I do? I presume it is probably time to get the data from the hard drive and do a reinstall, as figuring out otherwise is going to be tricky.
Ivo.

Re: Unknown issue with Windows 7 not booting up
If they have an actual windows disc (instead of a PC name brand restore disc) you might be able to boot off that and run a windows repair that way. Could try booting into safe mode and do a system restore back before the presumed updates and mess started.
