Has anyone here played Blast Works?

I'm very curious about it, and am looking for some opinions from the community here. It's a shmup where you can build your own ship, levels, enemies and even bullets from the ground up and trade/download designs/levels online with friends! From the videos I've seen on Youtube, it looks like you can also choose between whether you build a horizontal or vertical shooter. People create everything from sprites based off of existing game universes, to very serious attempts at creating a traditional shmup.

There's also the innovation in the fact that it's like the Katamari series in the sense that you're able to "pick up" enemies, attach them to your ship, and use their guns in addition to your own. You can really pile up a bunch of ships atop of your's, and even have the option to strategically hide them with the Z button to avoid losing them, and bust 'em out for a boss battle. The bullet physics also seem to be different from most shooters.

So basically it's a shmup cross between Katamari and Little Big Planet. Best of all, GameStop sells it for $10 new - so I'll probably pick it up no matter what. I was just curious if anyone here has any experience with actually playing it.

Its worth $10, since it is a fun little title. I paid $30 for the game and got a lot of fun out of the multiplayer. I never did get into the creation aspect - but Ive seen people recreate other titles fully in the game.

Overall the game is fun, but Shikigami no Shiro 3 gets my shooter time on the Wii.

Here's a better idea than asking us whether you would like it: Download and play Tumiki Fighters. It's free, it's on every major operating system, and it's the game that creator Kenta Cho expanded on to make Blast Works. If you find that you like Tumiki Fighters, Blast Works is essentially the super deluxe directors cut version.

Yeah I'd consider Shikigami 3 to be one of the best current gen titles out there.

I think I'll be picking this one up today. 8)

I had it and didn't like it at all, and I'm a big fan of the genre.

I still like Shikigami 2 the best out of the trilogy.

Do you have Ultimate Shooting Collection yet? I love Chaos Field.

I went to go pick up a used copy at my nearest GameStop, was dismayed to find only one copy in a generic GS case, and ended up picking up SEGA Superstars Tennis instead - which I'm currently loving.

Blast Works is only $6 used, and if I don't like it, I can always get a full refund within a week of purchase. I'll get around to it eventually. Thanks everyone!

No, I have not.

I bought this game for about 5 or 6 bux, and really I never got into the creative side of it either, but i was really bored with it. (I put in about 30 minutes or so) Kind of a neat idea, but it never captivated me. Ill stick to sin and punishment for my shump experience on the wii.

Dropped $6 on a used copy today. I beat the first couple levels in about 10 minutes or so, got bored, opened the level editor - decided I couldn't even pretend to care, and headed back to the Wii Menu.

I will be returning this title first thing tomorrow morning, I have way too big of a backlog to be toying with a turd like this.

Side note: The menu navigation is embarrassingly clunky. Not being able to control the cursor with the classic controller (although given the option to play with one) and being forced to select an icon rather than simply hitting "B" to return to a previous menu helped ensure this game's immediate return.
