Gamecube Smell

This is going to sound weird, but I am deadly serious.

I have always liked the smell that my Gamecube emits when it is powered on.
I can't describe it very well, but remember those Scalectric cars that everyone used to have? It's kind of like the burning smell they gave off - but not so burnt-like.
I guess it's just a 'powered-on electronics' type smell, but how the hell am I supposed to describe that??

It's not as potent as it used to be sadly, but I can still get a faint whiff which instantly transports me back to that wonderful day in May 2002 where all I did was play Rogue Leader and Tony Hawk 3 all day.

Seriously, am I the only one whose Gamecube gives off this smell (and enjoys it)?

I've never noticed my GC making a smell, but I've always liked the way the memory card slots in an oXbox controller smell. Reminds me of when I first got an oXbox years ago.

I bought an N64 on clearance from my local kmart just after the gcn came out and the power brick gives off a similar smell. Because I only really bought it as a spare it hasn't had too many hours since new and it still has the smell today. You can really smell it if I pull it out after a play session while it is still warm. It smells like Goldeneye.

The smell you're thinking of sounds like ozone. It's sometimes created by anything powered by electricity, but especially electric motors and switches. I don't think GameCubes are supposed to put out a significant amount of it though. Mine certainly never has. There could be something wrong with the motor in your optical drive.

Mine did have a very sweet "new plastic" smell when I first got it, but no different from any other console I've bought new, and it quickly went away with time.

What in the name of fuck is wrong with your Gamecube? I do like the smell of old Atari systems, though. My Saturn also has a definitive odor from the plastic. Also, one guy on Retronauts said that he used to eat the plastic surrounding the analog stick of a 5200 controller. To each his own and the brain damage incurred, I suppose.

I do associate certain smells with certain games, however. For example, the smell of a freshly-cleaned bathroom reminds me of Kingdom Hearts, and the smell of a busy city street reminds me of Mega Man Battle Network 4.

I've never noticed anything, but based on this alone I went around and gave all my consoles a good sniff....nothing but plastic.
