Is Gamestop Evil? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

My local Gamestop is gone out of business, Huzzah. There's no economic repercussions either, as their staff just absorbed into another branch.

Was it in a shopping mall? I noticed Gamestop have shut down at a couple of mega malls and kept another Gamestop open a block away at a strip mall. Maybe because the rent is cheaper and they still get the cliental.

That is exactly what happened where I live. The one in the mall closed, and a new store opened about 1.5 miles down the road in a strip mall.

It's also because malls in general are going the way of the dinosaur. I've noticed more and more malls (in-door ones, anyway) are becoming, well, dead.

Where did you hear this? I would be surprised if they did this. Whenever I pass a Gamestop in a mall, I always see it crowded. I can understand them closing duplicate mall locations (one mall in Nashua has two stores). I could understand them closing stores in Michigan because of the dead economy there.

As I stated a lot earlier in this thread some Mall locations are closing not all. It is mostly malls where the rent is too high or not enough patrons. In general Malls right know are a lot cheaper than stand alone stores and strip malls.

But for the most part gamestop is condensing stores because a lot are just too close to each other.

Poor sap I knew moved his local business from a strip mall type place in a very nice location to an indoor mall one. His business closed down soon after moving...

It may also make sense from the standpoint of things like midnight launches or other events that could otherwise be impacted by general mall hours or policies.

What I have an issue with is employees who won't look for stuff the website says the store has. I understand the website can be wrong, but usually if I'm looking for an item I see what stores have it. When I go to that store I first look for it myself, then I say I'm looking for this item, your website says its in stock, they almost always reply with well the website is wrong a lot of times, and they won't make an attempt to look for it. I usually have to press them, well could you see if you might have it. Its frustrating. Usually only the manager will actually search for an item. The damning thing is these items usually accessories or games, were traded in years ago, and probably never get sold because their employees won't look for them. Of course I did find GCN component cables one time doing this.
