So what would prevent someone from getting a game, doing the same thing, and then saying that they just received the game from the redbox that way. Wouldn't that screw the last renter over and get them a free game (not even having to pay the $2).

I guess you could even take it a step further and post about how you were "almost screwed" on your favorite gaming forum to further throw off the police investigation.

Well in this case Hashiriya called within minutes of renting the game so he would to have rented the game, scanned the disc to get the correct ring code on it, Printed and cut it out, then called and been told to stick it back in the box. Since this it unlikely to have happened in this short time frame, they've believed he didn't do it. If someone called 6 hours later they'd be less likely to believe him.

I had a feeling this new addition of video games would be problematic for Redbox.

It's one thing to let a $15 DVD go, but a $50 video game? Yeaaaah. Just wait till more people catch on. :/

pretty sure game rentals cost more than dvd rentals. Blu Ray rentals cost more, I know that.
