I just recently did the same to replace a joystick on a wave bird using a broken wired controller.
I've attempted to use replacement parts from a knock off to repair an official controller before and the parts are usually not even the same. If it was this way with PS2 controllers I'd imagine it would be the same for game cube. I'd say all you could salvage off one of those is the rubber sticks.
So wait... $43 for 12 adapters that let you use a PS controller on a GC?
That's not a terrible deal. That's probably $4 per adapter if you include shipping it out to all parties involved.
Personally, I can't imagine many games on my GC/Wii that would use the PS pad configuration. For Wii fighters, I have the MadCatz arcade stick. For GC games, the GC controller works. I do have a PS-style wireless GC controller, but with the exception of CVS2, most games just feel awkward.
Also, official SONY PS controllers bite. I have no idea how people use that "d-pad".
My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis. Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.
I like the Saturn d pad best. But outside of that 2nd place would go to Nintendo. But like i said, the button arrangement is just odd to me. Could be worse. Like the N64 config. so bizarre.

Typing on my phone isn't working out very well.
The N64 button configuration is better IMO than the GC config. I've never been able to memorize which button is X and which is Y, I've always had to look. That's the only controller whose button layout I've never been able to memorize.

thanks easy think of it like an SNES controller playing mario. A is jump, Y is run. Y is diagonally left and up from A on both SNES and GCN controller. It "feels" the same.

Y is above the A button, X is to the right. I would think it would be easier to remember the placement of 2 buttons (i find the A and B buttons to be obvious) instead of 4 buttons that feel the same on Dualshock controllers. That, and with the GC controller, it is a lot easier to hold a and press another button at the same time. My only complaint for the gc controller is that there was no left Z button. And that the directional pad is tiny.

It helps having a PS1 for a first console, like me. I suppose it would be harder to learn after growing up on Nintendo.

No left Z button was a problem for games ported from PS2/XBox, like Splinter Cell. Led to weird button combos for certain actions. And I've never met anyone who thought the D-pad was big enough, so you're not alone.
