Need help - recommend game under ridiculous criteria

Post by chupon »

I've got a game night set up for someone who used to be into games in back when he was in college. So he's 30 or so now and used to play Counter Strike, and similar stuff back then. He's pretty leery about coming back and doesn't want to stray out of the comfort zone he seems to recall. Here is the criteria he says he would be willing to try a new game under.

2p simultanious
Reality based
WW2
Coyboys
Ninjas
Sneaking
Snipers
A game I haven't played as to not give me the "edge."

This is kinda a cluster f for me. His deal is he knows I'm a serious gamer and has this phobia that whatever we play is going to be no fun for me because he's gonna bring me down. I personally would love to just watch someone play games for hours without even wanting to play.

I'm leaning toward a 2p coop FPS but I don't know if I could sink to the level of a Modern Warfare or the likes. Objective based games or levels I think would be a plus also. Not just a death match coop kinda thing.

I own basically every system so if anyone could throw any ideas at me it'd be appreciated. Everytime I come up with something it gets shot down.

You're going to be really hard pressed to find a realistic WW2 game that includes cowboys and ninjas.

Maybe keep it in his comfort zone by sticking with Valve products. Left4Dead or coop Portal 2 would fit the bill without being competitive. Or you could get on and play TF2 together for free.

Borderlands maybe?

The Saboteur is the closest I can think of offhand to actually matching those requirements, but it isn't multiplayer. It has neither proper ninjas nor cowboys, but the role you play could be seen as a ninja of sorts.

What about Counterstrike?

What about the Half-Life PS2 port? It featured co-op, was "reality based" to an extent, has a few sneaking parts, includes some sniping and snipers, and has those female spec ops ninja-types.

Lol, it sounds like to me your friend is screwing with you, though I could be wrong. Perhaps you could tape together the cases for Ninja Gaiden, Red Dead Redemption, and some Call of Duty game... just call it a "multi-disc game". If that doesn't cut it, it shouldn't be too hard to invent the game yourself for your friend in the Games Factory or Flash in a week or so using 'realistic' scaled Google image "sprites".

Problem is I don't think he is. I don't think all of the above descriptions need to be in one game.

That being said I think Left 4 Dead might be the first choice. I actually haven't played i yet.

Thanks guys for all the advice!

Edit: Nice Simpsons reference. I actually saw that episode once. Loved it! Probably one of the best I've seen although I'm no Simpsons expert.

Geeze talk about picky, tell the bum to pick the stupid game. Seriously, if he has a computer, he can check various demos ahead of time to see what he likes. You can also have a variety of games and not just locked into just one for a tournament, part of the fun of the gaming is discovering new ones.
