lol. I like Malick and this film has been really divisive with audiences and critics alike. I am eager to see it, but I'll caffinate first on your recommendation.Luke wrote:I'll let you in on a little secret: TREE OF LIFE is cinematographic ambien.

Well, it isn't like THE GREEN LANTERN where you expect, ya know...stuff to actually happen, but TREE OF LIFE is a lot like looking through a photo album. I know that sounds weird, but once you see the movie I think the "photo album" reference will make a lot more sense. Not saying it isn't a good movie, just that if you are the type who loves falling asleep on a couch while watching a movie on a Saturday afternoon that this is the movie for you.dsheinem wrote:lol. Funny thing about movies that "put you to sleep". I was always told that watching "GANDHI" was like watching paint dry. Not only did I watch the entire movie on my first viewing (starting after 11pm), I bought the autobiography the next day, which is in my office. So who knows, TREE OF LIFE might be great to some.

Just saw "Bridesmaids"(Yes, I'm man and straight).
It's kinda like if "My Best Friends Wedding" was grosser, unfunnier, more drawn out, and had the two really annoying chicks from SNL. I saw it as a favor to the gf, and even she didn't like it.

I loved BRIDESMAIDS. Well written, decent pace, and the acts all seemed to pull nicely together. Sorry to hear you didn't like it, and it also sounds like you're not looking forward to BRIDESMAIDS 2 (which will happen or I will eat one of my many hats).

Did you like it? I don't really like movies in general but that's one of the few I really enjoy.OldSchool_Boy wrote:Chinatown

I love this film. Number 2 on my all time favorites. The pacing is excellent because no scene in the entire 130 minutes feels like it doesn't need to be there and the film works so well because of the dialogue that says what needs to be said and nothing more. A problem I have with it is the piano score for a scene or two where it doesn't work for me but other than that the score is excellent. Plot works and Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway are fantastic. Everything about it just worksbrunoafh wrote:Did you like it? I don't really like movies in general but that's one of the few I really enjoy.OldSchool_Boy wrote:Chinatown

Yeah, Luke's taste in movies isn't always terrible (at least, not on Mondays). Bridesmaids was seriously a great comedy. I didn't think it was as good as Superbad, but it was really solid. And Kristen Wiig is great-- she just didn't have that many memorable parts in the last season of SNL. I also like Maya Rudolph, and not just because she has born two children for P.T. Anderson. They should get married already.Luke wrote:Retrozoa wrote:Just saw "Bridesmaids"(Yes, I'm man and straight).

The only bad thing about the movie that I recall is that I wish they had developed the storyline between Ellie Kemer's character and Wendi McLendon-Covey. They just kind of dropped that entire bit after the airplane scenes.

Completely agree. That storyline seemed to really be going somewhere, and then *poof*, it was an afterthought. Still a fun and funny movie that I'll watch again.Limewater wrote:I wish they had developed the storyline between Ellie Kemer's character and Wendi McLendon-Covey. And yes, possibly I should only review movies on Mondays. but that won't change the fact Green Lantern is god awful. If only Hal uttered "I see your hateball and raise you a catapult built on will power!" at least it would have been funny. Biggest letdown of a Summer movie in over a decade (yes, it makes Bay's Transformers look good).
