Thinking about getting another DS, please help

Post by BoringSupreez »

I'm considering getting another DS, probably a Lite. Anyway, what I need help with is finding the edition that will hold it's value best. I'd like to buy it in a color that will still be worth something years from now, when the blues and reds are only worth $20. So does anyone know which colors sold the least?

It doesn't matter, there are so many out there that the value is virtually nil. Even limited edition units (like the gold zelda one) have been knocked off by Chinese manufacturers to the point where most people don't know they've got a fake shell. A piece of coloured plastic isn't going to make it any more valuable in the years to come. If anything the DSi or the DSiXL may end up retaining more value, simply because there are less of them out there.

That's not necessarily true. Gold and Pikachu N64's still go for $50 and more on ebay, while the grays go for $25. And some colors of the GBA are worth more than the usual transparent purple and blue.

Indeed, most things that are sold as 'limited editions' these days still have at least 50,000 or 100,000 copies floating around. People buy into the bullshit and fork over the extra money thinking whatever will be worth more down the road. Then of course a year later, Gamestop still has a beat to snot copy they almost can't give away and craigslist and ebay are full of people trying to sell them for 3 times what they paid.

Like comic books and 'collector' cards have already done in the past, video game stuff has long since passed the point where enough copies of things are sold and more people keep things complete that I don't expect anything that isn't signed or has less than 1000 copies to ever go up in value unless it is still in the 'speculator' period where people's brains fail them and are deluded that paying double retail is a good idea because the 'value will keep going up'.

As Irixith said, look how many shells show up when you search for "gold zelda ds" on ebay.

Heck, look at completed auctions.

The speculators with ridiculous prices are all unsold. The systems that have sold are all well below the $150 retail price they sold at.

I wouldn't buy one for the value. If you have one that you like that works well, then just be happy with that. If you are looking for another one, the XL is nice. I like mine, but I never thought about it being worth anything.
