This issue appears to have been caused by the Genesis. Tried it tonight with another model 2 and it appears to work just fine.
I have a Sega CD Model 2 (which I use with a Model 2 genesis) and from the day I picked it up, the unit has had this problem. I'm not tremendously knowledgeable about the inner workings of the system, so maybe someone here can help. I'm fairly handy with a soldering iron (although I kind of hate doing PCB work).
The unit boots, saves and reads disks fine. I am using all original cables. It's in good cosmetic shape, doesn't appear to have been abused by the previous owner. However, after running for 10-20 minutes, the unit resets. It will start back up, and it will play, except it will then reset after 5-10 minutes. Then again in 2-3 minutes and so on.
If the CD unit is attached, then the Genesis (model 2) will do the same thing when playing cartridges. Unattached the genesis works fine. The genesis is in good shape, except the reset button sticks - so I removed it. I haven't attempted any other repairs on the unit.
Any ideas?

Re: Help: Sega CD Model 2 resets itself
Possibly a bad cap or mosfet that's overheating and causing a reset or perhaps someone did a bad job replacing the fuse with some crazy jerry rig?

F301 is on the bottom on this board with a black casing on top marked FL301. I haven't cracked out the voltmeter yet, but if it is bunk, what's the recommended replacement for this model?

There's an old thread or two somewhere with notes on replacement. Hit the search.
