I see there's a pretty good guide on RB with a list about this here, but figured maybe we could get a discussion going about these. Specifically I'm just kind of interested to hear some input on the PS1/N64 -> Dreamcast ports, like Dino Crisis and the Resident Evils, they tend to look pretty nice with the improved resolutions and textures. I wonder if some of these ports have some extras?
Also for another quick discussion, I see that RB sells Dreamcast VGA cables, and my HDTV supports VGA, sadly not S-video though. How much of improvement would VGA be over AV cables on my HDTV? If it's worth it I'll totally order one and bust out my Dreamcast to finally put it to use, just like I have with my Xbox when I realized it had component cables. haha
Superior Dreamcast ports
Re: Superior Dreamcast ports
A huge improvement, be sure your HD supports 640x480 when in VGA mode. Get the box with the Composite/S-Video output. There are a few games that don't work in VGA, the box allows the optional video output.

Re: Superior Dreamcast ports
This is true. I have a Panasonic Viera and it doesn't support 640x480 and it creates some distracting light vertical lines every 1/4 of an inch or so, so the DC looks nicer on S-Vid for me. Keep your options open so you can get the best pic on your TV.CRTGAMER wrote:A huge improvement, be sure your HD supports 640x480 when in VGA mode. Get the box with the Composite/S-Video output. As for superior ports, I am interested to see what people think.

Re: Superior Dreamcast ports
My TV is ED not HD and supports 640x480 properly, but see this post for the difference on mine.

If you're tv supports 640x480 VGA input then I consider upgrading to VGA well worth it. I have a VGA cable and use it on an HDTV very happily, but I recommend the box if you want to play several Capcom games.
If you're interested, here's a written article where I reviewed the cable Racketboy sells with some Q. and A. at the bottom:

And here's a video where I discuss its benefits:
As for the ports looking better on the Dreamcast, I only played Resident Evil 3, but thought it looked much better without doing a side-by-side comparison. I also heard some games were just directly ported to the Dreamcast from the PS1 without receiving any noticable enhancements. I do prefer the PS2 version of Resident Evil: Code Veronica over the Dreamcast version though, despite it being a game that I associate with the Dreamcast.

The DC version of Rayman 2 is spectacular.

Re: Superior Dreamcast ports
Rayman 2 definitely came to mind, I'd probably rather get it for the DC than anything else.
Anyways thanks for all the info guys! Very helpful. I couldn't figure out if my HDTV supports 640x480 though for VGA, went through the manual and options on the TV but couldn't find anything. It's a 32" Samsung, 720p. Googled around and sawthis guy seemed to have success with it, so maybe it'll work out fine for me? haha...

I've actually been looking into the superior ports myself and here's what I've come up with so far:
Hydro Thunder
San Francisco Rush 2049
Re-Volt
Rayman 2
GTA2
Jedi Power Battles
Centipede
Spiderman
Legacy of Kain: Sould Reaver
Tomb Raider Last Revelation
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 & 2

Hook your PC up to it and switch to 640x480.
