Nintendo IP introduced in 6th/7th Gen, and their quality.

Post by NeverGoBak »

A while back, a year or two ago, a friend of mine made a comment that Nintendo was just like a kid with Tourettes(don't ask me why this was the comparison, I honestly have no idea), they just come out with an update of all their old IP every once in a while, and don't contribute anything new. While I can see why one would think that, I thought it was a very ignorant statement. I wanted to know what new IP's they introduced on the GBA, GC, DS and Wii, and if they're good.

What come to my mind instantly are:

"Animal Crossing" games
"Starfy" games
"Elite Beat Agents" games
"Pikmin" games
"Custom Robo" games
Drill Dozer
Kurukuru kururin

...but I've never played any of these games, and I know for a fact there are more out there too. Including one introduced around the time of the recent E3.
Current Consoles: SNES, GBC, Game Cube, Nintendo DSL, Wii, N64, PS2
Past Consoles: PS1, X-BOX, GBA

FAV Franchises/Games: Sonic The Hedgehog, Lock's Quest, Legend of Zelda, Megaman Battle Network, Mysims, Plok(SNES), Kirby, Ristar, Sly Cooper, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Smash Bros, Okami, Tekken, Super Mario, Wario Land, Golden Sun, Streets of Rage and Elite Beat Agents.

A lot of those have been around far longer than the 7th gen. They were just exclusive to Japan.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Animal Crossing is the sort of thing you'll either enjoy or you'll think its unbelievably boring.

Drill Dozer is great, and seeing as how you can still nab sealed copies for less than $5 new on amazon, you should get it. Right now.

Pikmin was interesting but I wasn't ever super into personally. It's got a sizable cult fanbase though.

haven't played the rest.

Also, Animal Crossing and Custom Robo had N64 games. Japan-only ones but still.

Nintendogs, Steel Diver, Big Brain Academy, Brain Age and any of the Wii title games. Animal Crossing was on the N64 in Japan.

Drill Dozer is nothing short of completely spectacular and shame on Nintendo for not making a second one.

Animal Crossing and Custom robo were both originally on the N64. Haven't played the Starfy games, the Pikmin games are alright (can never find 2 at a reasonable price though), haven't played Kuru Kuru Kururin either, EBA was pretty fun (hard though).

Batallion Wars is just a continuation of the Famicom Wars series

EDIT- Golden Sun is technically a Nintendo Franchise. Awesome series.

I believe Battalion Wars was originally going to be an Advance Wars game, but they changed it to be a new game.

Ah, how could I forget Golden Sun, one of my favorite GBA games.

We're talking 6th and 7th, and only two of them are older than 6th, just as japanese releases from what I gather. I, personally will still count them, because in my world outside of this website, they might as well not exist. As nobody but me knows about non NA releases, and certainly not my friend up there .
