There is a theory that the Ioka became the land dwellers and the Laruba became the sky dwellers in the 12000 BC part. Ill have to dig it up again because if I remember it correctly it was a real good read - even if it is wrong.

I like swapping between different characters for the story, although keeping them all at consistent levels is a pain. Like right now, I have two characters in my party at level 17, and one at level 12 because they haven't had as many battles for their part of the story up to this point.
I have also been playing a little more lazing blazers, and whilst I love it, I am getting a bit sick of getting to act 9 just to screw up and hit a wall when I lose my powerups.
I need to get back into banjo kazooie, it's been taking a backseat to FFIX atm.
Whats your opinion on FFIX so far? Its by far my favorite FF games and one of my favorite RPGs in general. I'd suggest sticking with a team though instead of swapping around. You'll make way to much grinding for yourself if you want to keep that up. If your not attempting to do all the extra side-questing there really is no bad team to pick. Quina is pretty powerful, but takes A LOT of extra work to make that way. I'm always a fan of just using the early characters as they were my favorites: Zidane, Dagger, Steiner, Vivi. Quina would find a spot on there if I was attempting to fight the optional bosses like Osma though.

Well I could hardly help it up til now, I'm still at the point where I'm forced to use characters. I'm going to struggle choosing later on - I have played this before, and I kinda like most of the characters. Zidane is obviously forced, and I'd probably use one of the two white mages, but choosing between Vivi, Freya, Quina and Steiner for the last two places would be tricky. I don't really care for Amarant though. I already have about 7 or 8 of Quina's spells as is, so I don't think getting those will take too much effort. I assume you must be talking about the effort catchign frogs to power up frog drop?
Anyhow, like I said, I have played FFIX before, twice in fact, and got up to different points each time - I got to Pinnacle Rocks the first time I played (where I am now in fact), and up to the start of the third disc the second time, but neither time did I own my own PS1/PS2, so I had to stop. This time I'm playing it on my own system, and I felt it was long overdue being beaten, as it's my favourite final fantasy of the ones I've played - even if I hadn't actually beaten any of the series until recently.

FFIX is one of my favorite FF games as well. It's pretty easy to get into and looks really nice for a Ps1 game. I'm somewhere on disc 3 where you have to split up your entire team into 2 four-man parties. You do one part with one team and another part with the other team. I choose my team poorly though, and i have to grind like 10 levels with my 2nd team. That's why I stopped but I plan on finishing it real soon. Also I've heard that the final boss is pretty easy, so that's good.alienjesus wrote:Crabmaster2000 wrote:alienjesus wrote:Been working through Final Fantasy IX, I think I'm around the half way mark on disc 2 now, and about 15 hours in. I got to the third disc of FFIX [I was at the part where you were in the desert, and had to find the right sandtrap to fall into] when I misplaced my memory card, and subsequently, all my progress.Crabmaster2000 wrote:alienjesus wrote:Been working through Final Fantasy IX, I think I'm around the half way mark on disc 2 now, and about 15 hours in. Last night I beat the second game on my Summer Gaming list, Dead Or Alive. Of course the series is rather infamous for its shapely fighters, but I really didn't have much experience with them. However the wonderful article about the series on http://HardCoreGaming101.net had always made me curious. And it being an infamous game only made me want to give it a try even more.
I should say that I'm most interested in 2D fighting games. However I've dabbled in some 3D and borderliners: Tekken, Soul Calibur II, Battle Arena Toshinden, etc. Upon firing DOA up I was immediately reminded of Virtua Fighter 2 which I had played -- and hated -- in the past.
I decided to go with Kasumi, as she was the one I recognized from reading about the series. Of course I knew Ryu from Ninja Gaiden, but let's be honest. If you're going to play a game known for its bounciness, then why pick a dude? That would take away some of the campiness of being exposed to it for the first time.
Usually when I play a 2D fighter for the first time, it really doesn't take me long to complete the arcade mode. Generally speaking, it's a one or two session deal for me to get used to the controls and make it through. But Dead Or Alive turned out to be something totally different to me. I expected long matches with lots of special moves. Instead I realized that matches could be over in a matter of seconds if the AI unleashed a particularly brutal combo. So instead it took me a good four or five sittings of getting used to controls, and learning some strategy to get through the Tournament Mode. Indeed DOA turned out to be a far deeper fighter than I expected. I had to learn patience for one. This wasn't the sort of game where you could always just rush at an opponent. No, I actually had to play quite defensively at times. But after enough practice -- and admittedly some frustrated button mashing -- I came out victorious.
All in all, I thought it was a pretty fun game. Certainly it was a bit rough around its edges. But I liked it way more than Virtua Fighter 2. And I liked enough that I plan on playing some of the sequels as well. Who knows, maybe I'll even subject myself to the movie as an added element of camp?

Re: Snickerd00dle's Summer Game Challenge 2011
Okay, I just beat Super Mario Galaxy, you know, final boss, credits sequence and what not. Though I apparently have 59 stars to go before I get a complete instead of beat status(I'll be going back leisurely from here on out). Great game, probably the best 3d platformer I've ever played. I just loved the way the game played around with matter and gravity, compared to the rest of my gaming history, a truly unique experience. I really loved just about everything about the game. Bosses are fun, the ability to skate and fly through levels was awesome, and it has some of the best visuals I've experienced. One part of the game I really loved, was the ending cutscene, and the storybook chapters. I feel the storybook chapters have some deeper meaning to them and considered making a thread about it, I felt myself looking forward to the next chapter much more than new galaxies and such, and I got watery eyes several times. The ending cutscene "the circle always repeats itself, but never in quite the same way" describes Mario as a franchise so very well. If sonic can be described with the words speed and adrenaline, I think I'd use the word magic to describe this game, an experience that can be described as such being my favorite in gaming. All and all, this is a gaming experience I really don't think anyone should miss out on. I think I agree with IGN's rating on the Galaxy series

my guess is because I played the Genesis port? That's assuming there's a version of the game that's a lot better?dsheinem wrote:how do you hate Virtua Fighter 2?
