Re: Child of Eden
The game is made by Q Entertainment. All of their games are fairly short if you only want one trip through, but they all have great replay value. I still pop in Space Channel 5 every now and then.
Hell, you should see how much people pay for shmups! and they are generally even shorter than rail-shooters!
Sure, some games are long. And those are nice to have. But when I just wanna sit down, get stoned, and trip out on something for half an hour, I'll be able to do that with Child of Eden for years to come. (Assuming its anything like Rez, which I also still play regularly)
Rez isn't cheaper because its short. You can buy a crap ton of jrpgs on psn/wii that have physical copies selling for way more than their dlc counterparts, and these games are freaking long! Its only cheaper because its a dlc games and has been out for a while.
Heck, by those standards, any fighting game, beat em up, shoot em up, puzzler, or even fps isn't worth the standard release price.

Re: Child of Eden
I have played many hours of REZ, first on the dreamcast, then the PS2. I know i have at least 10+ hours on the PS2 version alone. I like everything about REZ, love the music, i like on rail shooters, and the funky colors all do it for me. that is why i am looking forward to this game.

Then don't buy Child of Eden until the price drops, because you obviously don't like the style nearly as much as many others, who at least played through the game more than once. I am positive that you didn't unlock the bonus stages in one play through, and probably missed out on a good portion of the game thinking it was done when you finished level 5. If you want to give it a casual run-through, then of course you won't want to spend $60 on it.Weekend_Warrior wrote:Did you spend ages playing Rez? Because I didn't. I don't like RTS games, so I don't buy them. I also don't complain about their price. Its because I can objectively know that there are a lot of people who would pay top dollar for a game, even if I'm not crazy about it.

Re: Child of Eden
Well... I guess I could be interested in this game if it ends up working well with the PS Move on the PS3 and is in stereoscopic 3D. That might be a pretty cool experience
Otherwise, yeah.. this game really isn't for me

Re: Child of Eden
I'm thinking about getting this game for my father-in-law for father's day because he likes his Kinect and I want to try Child of Eden, so I have a few questions.
Does this game have local multiplayer, or at least short turn-taking intervals?
He usually only plays his Kinect with others.
Does the game require a lot of quick and precise movements?
Kinect is painfully laggy on his television, and we believe this is primarily a problem with the television that we can't fix. When we play games like Kinect Adventures, we have to anticipate jumps about 1/2 second before they happen and Dance Central becomes impossible on harder levels that require more precise rhythm and timing.
Is there any music with curse words?
I don't mind this, but he would.

I'll be checking this out at some point too. Space Channel 5 and Rez are two of my all time favorite games

Different strokes, I didn't want to make it sound like I was ragging on you because some people just have different tastes. Personally I almost never finish games that are over 20 hours, or it takes me the better part of a year to do itWeekend_Warrior wrote:Otherwise, yeah.. this game really isn't for me
I was really irritated by the IGN review. In the first paragraph they gripe about the length, then give it a really positive review, then gripe about the length again. I know it's worth mentioning, but seriously how do you write a positive review book ended by complaints with questionable relevance. It just gets on my nerves.
Re: Child of Eden
So I just started playing it and finished the first level, I am using a controller and I love it to bits! Don't let the fact you dont have a Kinect in any way shape or form stop you form picking this game up.

Re: Child of Eden
This game is absolutely amazing. The art and design is my favorite in any game except for Rez. The story is simple yet touching and I was left in pure awe after beating the game. I cannot say that this game is better than Rez, my favorite game of all time. However I consider it an equal, better in some ways not as good in others. In my opinion Rez had better music and more unique level designs. Child of Eden simply makes things beautiful and plays much more off of timing and music.
This is old school gameplay at its finest folks. How many games these days let you play a level for over 10 minutes and die, to be forced to start over entirely and have gained NOTHING other than personal experience in the game. Its frustrating and makes winning so damn sweet, like way more games used to be.
Kinect isn't bad in the right conditions but to really explore the games depth the controller still rules. The Kinect experience is valuable though, and for the average user it could really draw you into the world and maybe interest people in the game that would not have been. In my opinion the tracking is perfectly fine, the flick to fire is the problem. It is simply not accurate enough often enough with a game that requires such strict timing for high scoring. I believe the Playstation Move version will be the best version if they keep motion controls and simply use a button for lock on.
