Strange Thing when I bought a SNES game new as a kid

Post by vlame »

So i bought Super Street Fighter II new when i was like 10, from this store called Gamequest or something. When I played the game I noticed it was in Japanese. The manual, boxart and cart were all the USA version...anything like this ever happen to someone? Was it a cost cutting measure?

Probably a factory error of some sort.

I would have bought the arcade version of the game instead of owning snes port. I remember Gamequest, gees some employee got angry because I mentioned Modchip for the ps1. He says me to that it is illegal/piracy. I didn't even own a ps1 at the time. I told him what if I want to play imported games, he shut his mouth after that. The only thing that I bought from that store were pokemon blue/red and FF7. Gamequest doesn't exist at our mall anymore or even K B's Toys.

Why do you say things like this?

Regarding the SNES game you bought being in Japanese, it must have been a factory error. A very strange one! Were the bosses names mixed up; (ie. M.Bison being named Vega)?

@benderx...were you in Long Beach, CA too? gamequest was right next door to the tilt and if you were upstairs near either of these stores you could see where KB was, near the end it was a generic toy store ran by Asian or middle eastern fellows, not being racist-this is true.

@Breetai...yes, i think this was the first exposure I had to the name switch.

so it's your theory that arcade versions of games are actually better than their 16-bit home ports? Interesting. I don't think anybody has every said that before.

Nintendo was misleading gamers when ninja turtles 2 arcade nes version came out, same as the arcade not really. of course I was talking about Capcom Classics Collection/compilation. capcom mislead the gamers when street fighter 2 hit console release in early 90's.

Nintendo did not release TMNT2. That was Konami that released it ON the 8-bit Nintendo System. Nintendo had absolutely nothing to do with the advertising at all. Even then, anyone who had an NES knew damn well it could not come close to arcade graphics. I don't think any intelligent kid at the time was mislead. I wasn't. I rented it, liked it, and then bought it at the time (and got my free pizza from Pizza Hut!). Likewise with the 16-bit versions of SFII. It was as close as possible, and that is all that ANYONE claimed it was.

I'm not sure why you are talking about Capcom Classics Collection. That was not even close to being available in 1992. The only way to get the arcade version at the time was to buy an actual arcade.

You seem to be way off in left field... Is there a reason for that?
