Smile: My pregnant Sister* and her Husband are staying at my house for the weekend. Last night I treated them to dinner at a popular Italian restaurant.

Frown: The tab was over $160 before taxes and tip.

Ticked: The food service provider of the restaurant is Roma, which provides okay, but really cheap ingredients. I know overhead is a bitch, but with economies of scale I bet our meals (wine aside) cost less than three dollars a piece. Noodles, cheese, red sauce, and eggplant shouldn't cost $30.

Now I don't complain about this to anyone but you guys, and I'm not "that guy" who always has to point out how expensive a meal out is, but since I owned a catering company I can tell when I'm getting ripped off. I did purchase a bottle of Chianti (heard it goes great with liver) that was about $40, but sometimes I feel insulted by some of the high prices at 2 star restaurants. I'd be more than happy to pay $100 for an incredible meal, but paying over $20 for a mediocre one gets my goat.

On top of that, the menu is all about "these recipes were handed down to me from my Grandmother, blah blah blah". The cooks open a bag, throw the shit in an oven or boiling water, and...ding! It's done. The restaurant has no authentic recipes, no actual chefs, but they do have really cute waitresses that wear really low cut v-neck shirts, and they bend over a lot (the waitresses, not the shirts ;)).

I know I'm ranting, but I think we would all agree nobody likes that feeling of "hey, I just got ripped off".

*"My Pregnant Sister" sounds like a working movie title.

This is why I rarely go out to eat, preferring just to spend a fraction of the money to cook for myself. I'm like you: Running a restaurant is tough - out of every plate you have to pay staff, pay rent, buy stock, pay utilities, and maybe have something left over...

...but I think restaurants sometimes forget that they need to be competitive as well and that times are tough for their customers, too.

It doesn't help that so many people have no palate and will shovel any old grub into their mouths as long as it is fat laden and covered with so much sauce that you cannot actually distinguish individual components in the dish.

Ticked: My Minecraft server won't let me in. It keeps saying "Failed to connect to the server. Connection refused: Connect". I restarted my comp and reset the router but still no luck.

Smiile: Got passed the part I was stuck on in Splinter Cell yesterday.

I HAVE DONE IT!

I have been to the top of the mountain. I have witnessed the horror of the multi-dimensional Capcom beast of legend. And I have triumphed over it! In the name of my own personal God, I claim this bounty of bad gameplay in the name of...France. I'll give it to France.

In the past four weeks, I've had four dead computers and now a dead TV.

I'm hoping someone takes this script and turns it into a sitcom. Also, the Mavs are your 2011 NBA champs.
My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.
Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.

My awesome new TV I got at Goodwill recently just spontaneously acquired a bad color spot, right in the middle of the picture. Rage.
