I've found that N64 AV cords seem to work perfectly with SNES and vice versa, so I've considered just storing my SNES AV cables somewhere else and solely using N64 cables. I was wondering if there are any possible risks to using the N64 AV cables on SNES or NES consoles?
I would search it, but I honestly don't know what keywords I could use to get the right answers.

All three consoles are compatible. Are you plan on using the one cable on multiple consoles? The unplugging and plugging will eventually damage the pin connectors. Get a switchbox and leave each console video cable hooked up.NeverGoBak wrote:I've found that N64 AV cords seem to work perfectly with SNES and vice versa, so I've considered just storing my SNES AV cables somewhere else and solely using N64 cables. Re: NES/SNES/N64 AV Wires
Great, good to know. I've been doing a LOT of plugging and unplugging. Haven't gotten a chance to get a switch box(Since I only learned about them earlier this week,), so whenever I'm not playing a game I take the AV cords out to avoid clutter, gotta stop going that.CRTGAMER wrote: All three consoles are compatible. I agree with CRTGAMER. Lots of repeated plugging and unplugging will likely wear out the consoles' sockets.
The nes won't work with N64/SNES/GC AV cords. The NES just uses a regular RCA cord like a VCR would use.
On a related note, do you know they make S-Video cords for the SNES/N64/GC? If you're going to invest in a switcher you might want to make sure it can do S-Video in case you want to upgrade later.
The Gamecube has component cords for it as well if it's an early model 'cube with a digital out port. The cords are super expensive however, and you can buy much cheaper component cords for the Wii.

The cable I use for my SENS has an S-Video on the end, I just can't plug it into my TV.DinnerX wrote:I agree with CRTGAMER. Lots of repeated plugging and unplugging will likely wear out the consoles' sockets.

I'm definetely going to need a switcher though, as my TV has exactly 1 place to plug AV wires into. I've been on the look out for one that takes five/six at a time, otherwise I'll end up switching manually again.

That's too bad about the S-Video. Must be a fairly old TV. I've got one that's about 10 years old and it has one in the back. Oh well. Old CRT TVs are good for old games.NeverGoBak wrote:The cable I use for my SENS has an S-Video on the end, I just can't plug it into my TV.DinnerX wrote:I agree with CRTGAMER. This selector has 5 inputs. If you had to you could wire one switcher into another switcher. It's not ideal, but it should work.

Re: NES/SNES/N64 AV Wires
My TV is very new, came out in the last few years I think. I just found an older tv that has one after rummaging around, so I unplugged everything and took my N64 back there to try it out. I see what you meanDinnerX wrote:

I'm going to have to choose between SNES and N64 for the time being though.

Re: NES/SNES/N64 AV Wires
Alternatively, hook multiple switchboxes into an A/V receiver (if necessary, as you could probably handle an extra console or three just with the receiver's inputs). Wouldn't take much in the way of speakers to sound better than a TV to boot.DinnerX wrote:If you had to you could wire one switcher into another switcher. It's not ideal, but it should work.
While a brand new setup could add up, it's something you might run into at a thrift store/etc these days. Speakers too. There are games that support Pro-Logic back to the SNES days that I recall (Jurassic Park did), so it's not even like surround sound isn't relevant to retro.
