Finished Fame. Still awesome.

Finished Home at the Edge of the World. Great.

Still gotta finish The Dreamers.

What should my next New York film be? I've got Party Monster, RENT (the film adaptation), and The Wiz.

UP is so very very good. It is insane the way the movie makes you connect to an animated character in under three minutes. Hell, I think it made my Mother cry in under two minutes.

Any movie that can bring out so much emotion in such a short amount of time deserves praise.

I finally watched Machete. I didn't really get much enjoyment out of it. To be fair, I was in something of a bad mood when I saw it, but it didn't seem to win me over like other Rodriguez movies. I had more fun watching El Mariachi, Desperado and Planet Terror

Machete seemed to have too much going on. Too many characters, a slightly convoluted plot and some of the casting choices didn't work for me. I could have done without Jessica Alba in this role and I think I like Danny Trejo better when he's NOT a lead character. He just isn't as much fun to follow around for two hours as someone like Antonio Banderas.

Also, the action sequences were just boring to me and that is something I look forward to in a Robert Rodriguez movie

The movie almost seemed borderline racist to me. The cars with the hydraullics, really? Didn't like some of the political themes either. Keep politics out of my entertainment thank you very much
I might have to watch it a second time to see if I enjoy it more

I think that was part of the point though, that this was supposed to be ridiculously over the top. I enjoyed Machete when I watched it, but I felt it fell apart during the battle scene at the end of the film. I get that Rodriguez was trying to go for crappy B-movie, but that part felt just a little too low budget.

Oh, I watched Daybreakers last night and thought it was pretty terrible, even though I like many of the actors in it. My girlfriend and I kept making bad Gattaca jokes.

Machete was easily one of my favorite Rodriguez movies. I liked it way more than Planet Terror because it felt like a genuine b-movie rather than a big budget b-movie tribute.

i have seen bits and pieces of this trilogy but never sat down to watch a movie from being to end. i was kind of disappointed. it was okay/good, but i sure didn't think it was great. and it was hard to understand the dialogue in some parts. maybe that means i need to start turning down the stereo in my car.
First off...did you watch it in your car? With the stereo going?

Yeah, I don't think I'd enjoy any film I watched like that either.
i was watching the movie as i was driving, airing guitaring to my favorite music, and texting.

i watched the movie on the comfort of my couch. i had to rewind many parts in the movie because i just couldn't understand what was being said. i think it was the accents.
if you took a shit, please put it back

It wasn't as much fun though, which isn't to say that there weren't any moments in Machete that I enjoyed, but the movie as a whole wasn't as fun for me as Planet Terror. Some of the humor just felt flat too. Like the whole, "Machete don't text" line barely even got a grin out of me

Also, the movie seemed to take itself really seriously at times and not seriously at all at others. I couldn't feel a consistant tone. I think it's because of the whole immigration thing. Made the movie feel a little political whereas with Desperado or Planet Terror, I don't have to worry about political undertones, I can just focus on watching cool characters kill zombies or bad guys. Machete seemed to just want to be good, silly fun one moment and trying to make a serious political statement the next. I loved Black Dynamite because at no point in the entire film does it ever try to be taken seriously

I didn't like that fight scene either, but they all seemed undercooked. I've come to expect fun, exciting and creative action from Robert Rodriguez, but it felt like it was all just phoned in in this movie. Nothing creative in the action department. I mean I've seen more exciting action sequences in network tv shows than I saw in this movie

This. I saw it and I was hugely dissapointed. Most of the time is spent talking, many gags and scenes were too serious and without enough exaggeration for them to work. It was also too predictable sometimes.

The political stuff simply couldn' work in this movie. It's too complex to serve as an excuse for fights and explosions, too serious for comedic effect and too heavy handed and strawmanned to work by itself.

It was a huge dissapointment for me.

Ok, I was seriously wondering. You'd be surprised how many folks I've seen actually do that in their cars.
