Apparently a guy named Retroralph rewrote the emulator 1964 to run games at true 60fps as can be seen in this video:
He claims that several games were coded so they could be stepped up if the console had beefier specs. These games were:
Goldeneye
Mario Kart 64
Perfect Dark
Carmageddon
San Fransisco Rush games
Anyone have experience with this in multiplayer? Mario Kart 64 where the shells dont disappear randomly would be amazing. Same with Goldeneye multiplayer - PD we have the XBLA rerelease that takes care of it.
I am also curious about other games that occasionally had slow down - Conker, Blastcorps, Mario Tennis, Army Men, etc. But I think I might have to stay with Project 64 for those

Does this problem exist in the Wii VC version of Mario Kart? I don't think I ever noticed it.

It exist in battle mode after the match has gone for more than about 10 minutes. There is a chance that when shooting a shell it might bounce once then disappear or it will simply disappear after you fire it. I imagine it has to do with not having enough processing power to handle that many moving objects.

This maybe the emulator shown in the video. At any rate it does the same thing. I tried out goldeneye on the max overclock setting. You know that one spot on the dam right before the truck doors where there are several guys? Remember how the game always lagged there? Well not anymore. There is some almost unnoticeable lag I think. It's great.
EDIT: It runs Banjo-Tooie at a steady 30fps. I think this is my new favorite n64 emu.

I asked this question on the RetroCopy forums in an attempt to get Retroralph to answer, but the thread derailed into an argument over the source.
Anyone think that the reason for the speed increasing capabilities is because a number of N64 games were PC ports or coded for higher specs as the official N64 specs weren't released?

Perfect dark looks amazing, only now I see the appeal of that game.
f-zero already runs at 60fps I think.

Kinda a shame on how inconsistent and crappy framerates got in the 3D era. Framerates were almost always pretty rock solid with older 2D platforms.
