If that's what you're doing, you would have to remove the label before hand and then replace it afterward. That's really cool though, after seeing a vacuum forming machine on Myth Busters a few times, I wish I had one.

Might be over kill though. You can get primers made for plastics, then gold spray paint. Just examples...

You might want a clear coat on top of the gold to protect it. Rustoleum claims that gold paint finishes really tough, and "Do not use with clear coating to avoid dulling the finish." But you'd have to make a judgement call with that one.

But other than that, as long as it's done correctly, it should be good to go.

Seriously, I don't recommend doing this. Chances are pretty good you'll just end up damaging or destroying the cart/label, and a newer cart will only cost you about 20 dollars anyway (I imagine you'll spend at least this on paint anyway). Regardless, a spraypainted cartridge will never, ever look as good as an original, so why even bother wasting the time and money?

Wrong. Done properly they look amazing. People just don't know how to paint.

I agree. Even if you fuck up the paint job, the cart wont be damaged or destroyed. And the label is replaceable. The point of this is to restore the cart he has now, not replace it.

I would love to see the result of this. Not that I'm hoping you screw it up, but just for curiosity's sake. Also, that looks like a dismantled black cartridge from Killer Instinct. Did you paint that yourself, or find it online somewhere?

That's an NHL96 cart that was used for a Front Mission Gunhazard reproduction that I painted black.
