im starting my playstation collection and have few questions

1 what is the biggest official memory card for the ps?
2 what is the biggest official memory card for the ps2?

At my local Walmart, you can get two Ps2 8mb memory cards for about $20. One is red and the other, blue. Pretty good deal if you ask me.

get a few used ones and use freemcboot to back-up your saves to a usb stick.

I don't know what its like anywhere else, but pretty much every shop around this area will give one away with a game, otherwise there's a shop here with a basket of 8mb cards for $4.00 a piece. $20 isn't a terrible new price, but it's one of those items that's pretty safe to buy used for significantly less.

You should have 2 memory cards of each type, if you plan to get a good collection going.
