Duke Nukem Forever release date announced

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

That's the exact wrong reason to give for a game like this, where the whole reason we want it is because we liked 1996.
Ditto. My biggest hope for this game is that it still has retained a lot of its late 90's / early 2000's ... aesthetics, design, idea's, gameplay, etc, however you want to put it. Which I remember in one interview Gearbox and 3DR did say it should have some of the elements still with them saying it's like a combination of the old meets new.

Controllers being an issue with so many weapons is baloney. Never once has that been an issue in console FPS's that I've played, I remember Red Faction had a similar system like Half-Life 1-2 where the weapons were categorized in dropdown menu's or something... can't remember how it worked, maybe you hit another button to scroll down in those quick menu's to select the weapons. Doom 3 was never an issue either. Point is, it was never an issue and that's a pretty lame excuse if you ask me. Surely the d-pad or something could have been used for it.

You're forgetting that you're vastly more intelligent than the average console FPSer. Having to remember if the shotgun is up vs. down? Waaaaay too hard.

lol

Plus I'm pretty sure I've played some FPS's where you can hold as many weapons as possible, but there's also a dedicated button to switching between your current and last weapon on the fly. Surely that could have been done here too. Can't think of any examples... but I'm pretty sure the Serious Sam games did this.

Which by the way, I'm stoked for 3. Don't get me wrong I'm pumped for DNF, but it will be funny if Serious Sam 3 turns out to be more true to old school FPS roots and all.

You can switch between all your weapons in all console versions of Duke 3D. That alone says they're just being jackasses about it. Honestly the moment I heard that someone picked up DNF I groaned inside.

 wow good point. And yeah, honestly the XBLA port of DN3D was pretty damn awesome (way better than the Doom ports, a lot more options, etc).

Was I the only one who thought the graphics were actually pretty good? I had mine up to Ultra and I was getting a solid v-sync'd 60FPS with motion blur and AA, the lot at 1920x1200. That's a pretty efficient engine. I loved the location based damage as well, you can blow limbs and torsos to pieces. I'm soooo glad they went with a traditional style of control for the monster truck though. I fucking hated the vehicles in Borderlands.

Regards to the Ego you can boost your ego by scoring with chicks and drinking beer but also playing pinball and other activities as well. I think it's a pretty cool little dynamic and something I haven't really seen before outside of 'shield upgrades' and other nonsense.

Graphics seemed fine to me. One guy I saw complaining about graphics also mentioned that his card was old and he had to turn everything down. I tuned him out after that.

Graphics were fine here and my card is pretty poor.

Edit: My card is a low-end Radeon (HD 4550) and the only thing I did was scale down the resolution (to 720p; I always do that, even if the game doesn't really need it, because I can't see much difference and if there's going to be a scene with a lot of stuff going on, the card will already have power left to work with).

Yeah I'm seeing a ton of people dog on the graphics aside from you guys. Doesn't look that bad at all OR amazing from videos I've seen... but seriously who was expecting incredible graphics for this anyways? :x
