Alright I'm having a weird problem here. I can get Japanese text to properly display on both Windows and Ubuntu, but I can't get it to show up for file names. I'm downloading some OSTs that have Japanese file names but it just shows up as a bunch of squares or question marks.
For example, the first song on this OST I'm trying to download should be called "マジンガーZ", but instead it just shows up as 5 squares then Z in Windows and "?????Z" in Ubuntu. I know the file names aren't just botched because they show up in Winamp and when I copy and paste them elsewhere properly as kana. Can anyone shed some light on this?
This is the file I'm talking about if anyone wants to check it out first hand:

Japanese text on Windows/Ubuntu question
Re: Japanese text on Windows/Ubuntu question
Have you installed the Japanese language pack for your version of Windows already?
Re: Japanese text on Windows/Ubuntu question
Yes. Most Japanese text is displayed properly, I'm just having a problem with these specific files for reasons unknown.
Re: Japanese text on Windows/Ubuntu question
I've had this issue before after installing language packs and such, although everything seems to be fine now that I've had my System Locale set to Japanese for quite awhile. That's rather pointless though unless you want to run some Japanese programs like I do here and there, lol.
