Some games run smoother in lo-res mode. And sometimes you just have that silly urge to play something in lo-res out of curiosity. Well, maybe that's just me.

Actually many of the games that did offer higher resolution did so at the cost of framerate.
But i can't say they forced hi res on you it is usually a option in the game.

And rightly so i never used the hi res option i don't even know why they bothered with the hi res option if it meant a loss in framerate.

I cringe a little if Star Wars Ep. 1 Racer is in lo-res.

It's definitely a good idea to keep the jumper pack though. You might find another N64 without anything for cheap.

Usually I adjust to low frame rates somehow. Maybe its from all that banjo-tooie I've played. Great game, terrible frame rates.

I'll check latter, but I think at least pokemon stadium 2 to forces hi-res if the expansion pak is in.

EDIT:Just checked the options menu and there is no option to change resolution in Pokemon Stadium 2.

While PD, DK64, and MM are the only games that require the expansion pak, several other games have a hi-res mode you can enable or is auto enabled if you have an expansion pak. It's a pretty good purchase over all.

EDIT: Don't loose your jumper pack though. For games that automatically play in hi-res mode with the expansion pak in, a jumper pak is the only way to play in lo-res.
Every game I've ever played that had a hi-res mode had an option to play in lo-res in the menu. I've never heard of one that forced you to use hi-res. Besides, why would you want to play in lo-res mode?

I think The World is Not Enough forces you, but I'm not completely certain. I just can't remember it giving you the option.
