MVS Cabinet Monitor Scrolling

Post by lisalover1 »

I know I already mentioned this in another thread, but I recently got an Neo Geo 1-Slot arcade cabinet (which I suspect is likely not an original SNK cabinet) that, while awfully dirty on the inside, works fine, except for one very annoying issue. When the cabinet is left on for more than 5 minutes or so, the screen starts slowly scrolling down, with a black bar obstruction between the two halves of the image. I have tried using all the knobs on the monitor's board inside the cabinet, but none of them do anything about the vertical hold. Is there any way to fix this?

Here is the picture of the board on the back of the monitor:

Well, it wasn't an arcade monitor, but I had a TV once where the picture was doing weird stuff kind of like you describe. You might try using compressed air to clean up the insides. Cleaning up the insides of that TV helped it, although only temporarily. I don't see a reason compressed air would hurt an arcade cabinet, but I don't know for sure.

What ever you do be careful. CRTs can kill a person pretty easily.

There seems to be labels of some kind on the CRT. If they have information about the monitor you might want to take a picture of them and post it. Maybe someone else could tell you more then.

Don't add to my problems by pretending my past views are still held in the present. I do not have any patience for that. Feel free to ask me what I think now.

Are there any other knobs besides the board behind the CRT "Gun"? A pic of the screen showing the scrolling?

On the back of my monitor below the board that you have pictured, kinda at the bottom, there are knobs for v hold, v position , h position , brightness, contrast, ect. I would try to use the v hold when the screen starts to scroll. If you remember the spot before you turn it you should be able to put it back if it dose not solve it. It is wired that it won't happen for the first five minutes.

Saw you aren't getting any help over at Neo-Geo.com... No surprise there.

Based on other posts I read at the above site it sounds like interference. I'm not the best at this stuff but can you check to see that everything is grounded correctly?

Also try shutting off / disconnect the markee lights if they are running during play and then fire it up.

Do you have any other boards you could try? Another 2,4 or 6 slot?

It's not likely your power supply so don't sweat that.

I think it's ridiculous for the OP to be harping for a response less than 24 hours after posting. Be patient and wait a few days before bumping your topic again.

I'm sorry, it's just when I get a $200, 350lb piece of gaming hardware and it doesn't work properly, I get a little nervous! :x

Anyway, thanks to everyone else for their help; I will give the cabinet a thorough search for other video knobs when I get back home.
