I really like the God of War games. I don't get the hate. I say try it noise.

The games are fun, I'll give them that. I enjoy them for what they are, but I don't think they're anything special. They have a cinematic value that's unparalleled. My major complaint is that the combat system is deep as a puddle. I also feel like the puzzles are nothing but disruptive (even worse than DMC) and poorly designed.

I'm the wrong person to ask. Bores the hell out of me compared to Japanese action games.
Hit's the nail on the head. Though I don't get what people meant when they said it was buggy. In all three games I only ever encountered one glitch. And I had to actually go out of my way and intentionally do the glitch, it wasn't something that happened by accident. It gave me infinite red orbs though, so it was worth it.

I've only played the first game, but the glitches I encountered were numerous. Kratos got stuck on walls, in the floor, got trapped in a move animation that I couldn't get out of, was knocked over the edge of a pit and hung in midair in his fall animation (in a place where enemies could hit me). That one place where you have to climb the spinning blade columns in the netherworld? I literally got pushed through the wall and killed three times trying to climb it. As in I'd be climbing and then all of a sudden I'd be knocked through and dying.

Rent it and play the first level. Then realize that it's all downhill from there.

The God of War and Devil May Cry (1 and 3) games were hands down my favorites across all genres from the last gen. DMC3 is one of my top 5 favorites of all time, and GOW II would certainly make it into a top 5 from last gen. So yeah, I'd say give them a go.

I really don't understand what's not to like about any of these games, as I have never run into glitches with any of them. I can sort of see how some gamers may be turned off to the difficulty of the DMC series, but not retro gamers who grew up on harder games. They are almost universally hailed as some of the best games made in the past decade, and GOW2 is usually held up as the most polished (read: non-buggy) game on the PS2.

Another nod to DMC 3 as one of the best games last gen. It is easily in my top 5 as well. The GoW games couldn't possibly be more different from the DMC series though. Apples and oranges doesn't even begin to describe it.

How important is it to play the prior installments of Devil May Cry before moving on to 3? I bought the boxed set and I was thinking I would play through it sequentially, but I haven't finished the 1st one because it's really effin' hard and I have heard the 2nd isn't that good. Part 3 is still in its shrink wrap. Should I play it, or is it worth sticking it out through the first one, then playing the 2nd, then playing the 3rd?
