Re: Underrated Games
Is this underrated in the sense that the critics panned the games, or underrated in the sense that the games didn't sell well or become household names?

Yeah, the voice acting left a lot to be desired, but I don't think it interfered with the game too much. You're right, the final boss was pretty annoying lol.Hobie-wan wrote:I'm not sure I'd call it amazing, but I did enjoy playing it on PC. Well, up until that final fight with that freaking platform that was really easy to fall off of. You have to admit that David's voice acting in that was absolutely awful though.insanecow0 wrote: XII
Amazing FPS with comic book like visuals, as it was based on one. More games were planned, but XII didn't sell well enough![]()

Either or, both definitions mean underrated to me.J T wrote:Is this underrated in the sense that the critics panned the games, or underrated in the sense that the games didn't sell well or become household names?

Re: Underrated Games
I thought it was a really well done game, that sort of brought the old fast paced gameplay of the original Doom into the HD era. I also actually really liked the "gimmicks" as many people called them. The game is really easy on normal, but, kick it up to hard and everything about the game feels right. There's actually a fair amount to do in the game but it seems nobody else bothers with the side quests.brunoafh wrote:How do you figure?RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Wolfenstein (2009), Quake 4
I'm not saying its a perfect game, but, it was better than what most critics gave it, if I had to put a number on it I'd say its a solid 8/10.

Shadow Warrior is an underrated game.

It's made by 3D Realms, the same guys responsible for Duke Nukem 3D. The graphics style, gameplay, and sense of humor are all very similar to Duke 3D, except the main character's a badass Asian instead of a white guy. The sense of humor is really politically incorrect and it's full of satisfying explosions, machine guns, slicing enemies in half, etc. Yet for some reason everyone remembers Duke Nukem and virtually no one remembers Shadow Warrior.

I could go on, but the point is we've been over this ground many times over. A thread about under appreciated games for this gen is a good idea, but the rest is old news...

Agreed. I loved Journey of Dreams. Didn't deserve the flak it got.Pichu wrote:NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams x100
Always gets compared to the nostalgia/quality of NiGHTS into Dreams, and while I do say after watching an LP of both, the music/levels are way similar, Journey of Dreams is still a fantastic game. Also VA and human controls.
But this is my most wanted sequel and seriously deserved better reviews and sales.

Which exactly are you talking about here, lol ... because I for one thought Quake 4 was fairly solid (didn't like it as much as Doom 3 though, but it might be arguably more Doom-esque since it was faster paced), but as for the newest Wolftenstein I hated that one. The blue screen effect that you had to constantly use didn't help at all either, was very disorienting.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:I thought it was a really well done game, that sort of brought the old fast paced gameplay of the original Doom into the HD era. It's pretty funny but Raven Software games are insanely hit or miss for me no matter what gen it's been. Singularity is probably one of the better games I've played by them though, and I guess that could potentially fit this thread... it was pretty awesome and I only have like one friend I know of that played it too, never really gets talked about.
