3D... what?

Didn't they learn their lesson with Castlevania 64, or are you talking about the FPS arcade game?

I still think classic 1~X. I tried SotN once; Metroid-vania types just don't fit in my schedule any more. While the more recent games are this style, I stick with the early "belmont and a whip" action-mentality.
My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.
Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.

Haha I noticed that too.

Anyways, I think of classic Castlevania. SotN is the only Metroidvania one I've played (I don't own any handheld systems, so I don't really have access to the other ones), and I loved it, probably more than the classics (although it's very close). Nevertheless, for one reason or another, when I think of Castlevania, an 8-bit Simon Belmont immediately comes to mind. I don't even really associate SotN with Castlevania; to me it's its own game.
I'm known as ZebetiteGlitch or Zeza Von Thantos on other platforms.

Take your pick really. The most recent is Lords of Shadow on 360/PS3, which is a very nicely executed, albeit very derivative game. Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness on PS2, and Judgement on the Wii (a 3D fighter), offhand.

Personally, I tend to think of the series as a whole - but when I see a title announced, I tend to hope more for a Metroidvania title. Prior to SoTN, it was more a series that I was aware of than one that I really played much.

As Trevor they give you a cross on the way there. As Sypha it's her best spell, which can be rather crappy against some bosses, but should work well here. As the other 2...wouldn't even bother.

Symphony of the Night almost had to exist thanks to 3, otherwise Alucard would have gone down as the most useless ass of all the playable character in the history of the series. Just wish they would have kept the classic horror movie look over Anne Rice's style...

I used the cross and damn, it made everything soooo much easier. With the right throw, you can take off four units of his health. :)

I have Alucard as my ally. :?

Ack wrote:While I'm not really surprised nobody has mentioned any of the 3D games, I want to say they're not all bad. Curse of Darkness is forgettable, and though I want to get into it, the controls in Castlevania 64 have pretty much guaranteed that I will never make it into the castle, as I can't stand the platforming section to lower that bloody bridge. But Lament of Innocence was actually pretty enjoyable, and playing through it again as one of the bosses was really cool.
I also liked Castlevania 64, they're just not what I think of when I hear Castlevania. I've only played the two 64 ones, and although they're decent, they aren't as good as the earlier 8/16 bit ones.

Well, at the very least he can be used for shortcuts. (Japanese version of the game, he has twice the time to fly, since the hearts count down slower)
