This is the most stupidious thing i ever heard of...

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

noiseredux wrote:Inazuma, you've mentioned that if people wear something for a logical reason that you're okay with that. However, you also admitted that if you see somebody in a tie or whatever, then you instantly lose respect for them. I pose this question to you: have you ever considered that some of these men that you see dressed in suit and tie may be doing so because they have the responsibility to contribute to providing for a family? Even if they like or dislike a tie as a piece of clothing, the responsibility of keeping a roof over a spouse's head, or putting food in childrens' mouths is perhaps far more of a concern than fashion to them. Just curious your stance on that, since you've pretty much admitted to making snap judgments. Personally, I think it's commendable that some men might make that sort of sacrifice of comfort or style because their responsibilities mean more. Wouldn't you agree that that would be cause for respect.

tl;dr: "if you can't respect that you're whole perspective is wack." -- S. Carter
If someone is wearing a suit because they were forced to, I agree that it's not fair to think less of them, but it still looks really stupid to me. I get upset at the fact that he was forced to wear the suit. I hate all sorts of stupid illogical traditions. I can't help it. Any kind of bullshit really bothers me. Needless to say, I am constantly annoyed by various bullshit that I see in my day to to day life.

you bring up another question I have for Inazuma:

Inazuma, what video games do you like? Which ones do you play the most? Which ones don't you care for. I feel like I'm really only familiar with you from these sort of arguments that having nothing to do with games. And since we're on a VIDEO GAME forum, I can't help but be curious yr thoughts on, y'know... video games. Not the companies who make the games or hardware, but the actual games themselves. Just curious.
I love Japanese games. Either they were made in Japan by the Japanese, for the Japanese, or they at least are done in a Japanese style. Art style is important. Even if a game was made in America, if it looks and plays like a Japanese game, I will like it. I greatly prefer a cartoony style game over a super realistic looking one. For example, Super Mario Galaxy looks a hell of a lot better than Gears of War to me.

That's not to say I am a complete fucking racist when it comes to video games and I refuse to play anything else, but it's true that I generally dislike "American" style games, whether it be the art style or how it plays. Basically it's my preference.

I like every genre of video games, RPG's being my favorite. FPS and sports games are my least favorite. And as you already know because of the website we are on, I like retro games. Outside of Nintendo hardware, I stopped buying modern games.

I'm also extremely good at playing video games. I have the same mindset that the pros do, so if I have enough time and dedication, I can become one of the best players. I usually have one main game that I am focused on at a time, that I am trying to be the world's best at. Right now I have my eye on Phantasy Star Online 2. I plan on being the strongest and most skilled force player in that game.

I have over 1200+ games in my collection, most of them Japanese version. I really need to take pictures one of these days.

Well, who doesn't?
It's Mary Kate and Ashley: Sweet 16 Licensed to Drive. A true fan wouldn't make a mistake like this.
Well done catching those posers, Limewater!

How high are you up there in the DFO rankings? I have a friend IRL that's in the top 50 in the arena rankings, and he's been in the top 15.

I actually recently fell way behind in DFO and ended up quitting the game. They added way too much lengthy PVE content and the daily play time restrictions prevented me from catching up on it when I did have free time. I was unable to PVP because I was struggling to keep up with PVE.

However, for the time before this when I was able to keep up with PVE, and have time to play PVP, I was easily one of the best players. Generally speaking, I would completely destroy people. There is a mode where you can play 4 vs 4 teams, but you take turns doing 1 vs 1 fights. The winner remains, but he only recovers a small bit of HP/MP. It was completely normal for me to defeat all 4 opponents on the enemy team myself.

When I had to fight against some of the best players in the game, I would do very well and usually win most of the time. At the very least, I would be able to fight evenly with them. There was only ONE person in the entire game that would kick my ass the majority of the time and he was widely known as the best player. I was quite famous too, back when I actually did PVP.

Mindset is the only reason I was able to be successful. I would estimate that 5% of players truly understand the "pro mindset" and the other 95% are holding themselves back but they are unaware of it. Before I switched mindsets, I was still a pretty good player at video games, but compared to how I think now, I was extremely fucking horrible. I'd like to say that I instantly became 10 times better when I fully understood how to have the same mindset that the best players have.

In other words, if you have the right mindset, you can play a game with your full potential. You are not holding yourself back with some kind of mental handicap. I am completely fascinated with this subject. It is the most important thing when it comes to video game competition, even though the vast majority of players don't know anything about it.

What's your username in DFO, if you don't mind me asking? Was wondering if my buddy has heard of you.

Also, what's this "pro mindset" you speak of? I generally never play competitive multiplayer games, but I'm still curious what you mean by this.

I know someone here has asked for my DFO username before. It may have been you. It is Midori. I played witch.

I originally wrote up a long explanation of the pro mindset but it's easier to just post a link to a better one.

http://www.sirlin.net/ptw/

If you are going to read this, please do so with an open mind. Most people can learn a lot from reading this, but they won't get anything out of it unless they are able to consider that they have been playing with mental handicaps.

Video games are a mental activity. If you have the wrong mindset and stubbornly cling to it without considering that there may be a better way, you will never realize your full potential.

I asked if you knew my buddy before, I didn't ask for your username though as I do not play the game.

As for that article (I read Play To Win Part 1), he definitely brings up some valid points. Great ones, really. The only competitive games I play are 2D tournament fighters, and I don't play them very vigorously. I agree 100% with his sentiments on people yelling "cheap" and playing games with mental blinders/their own set of fictional rules. What's kind of ironic about the article is how blatantly obvious yet well put all of the points he's making are.

I also wanted to say, damn, 1200+ games. Quite a lot. I think I'm around the 800 mark myself (always growing), and I would say roughly 1/3 of them are Japanese language. I too have a strange obsession with Japanese games, movies and culture. I don't think I'd be able to straight up sell all of my US games for their Japanese releases though, my Japanese isn't good enough at the moment to warrant that, and I think I would prefer to own both anyway.

Sirlin's Playing to Win article may be about competitive games but it can be applied to co-op and single player games too. Many players are held back by fictional mental rules in all sorts of games.

A lot of people here have massive collections. Considering how cheap old games are, it's not really that difficult to amass a large collection. I don't have nearly enough time to play all of my games as much as I'd like.

It's nice to hear that you are also a big fan of Japanese games. I think it's safe to say that older gamers like Japanese games because we grew up on them. However with a lot of the younger gamers today that grew up on Halo, they call Japanese games "gay" or stupid. Colorful cartoony games are often viewed as inferior to today's ultra violent, realistic FPS games.

I sound like an angry old man sometimes. Damn kids today don't appreciate the classics. Back in my day, we didn't even have netplay. We had to physically leave the house and go to a friend's house to play multiplayer games. And when we bought a game, we actually owned it!

I fucking hate that. I honestly have no problem with FPS's, and some of my favourite games were made in the west, but being still in highschool means I only ever hear talk about Call of Duty. Or occasionally Left 4 Dead and Halo. Whenever I bring up RPG's in discussion I'm only ever met with blank looks, unless I'm talking to one of my close friends.
