buy POWER SUPPLY EXTERNAL with 4-Pin Molex , help !

Post by s8n »

hiya Racketboy members , i am looking to buy a small Power Supply that has a 4 Pin Molex connector on it.

I have Googled with little results because i dont know what they are called exactly.

Im from Australia and want one that i dont have to use a Power Converter as well.

What im thinking of doing is hooking up a PC Fan with a Molex connector to the Power Supply.

i look forward to some info

You need to hook up one of these 80 mm fans to cool something off or something similar?

If so, they are rated at 12 volts, but most will start and run with at little as 7 or so volts, they'll just run slower. Pretty much any power supply, including a wall wart will power one just fine if it's a one off sort of thing. Fans usually have arrows on the outside of the shroud showing which way they're supposed to spin so you can make sure you've got the polarity right if you hack some random plug to it.

roger that ......yes i am planning to buy a Xecuter xFan Xbox 360 Cooling System and remove the 2 Fans on it. After that get some equivalent sized Fans with a Molex connector and hook them up to 2 external PSU's.

the Xecuter xFan is supposed to run from the 360's DVD Drive Power Supply but i will be using that source for Whisper Legacy Fans.

I have done an eBay search and found some External PSU's that do 12V / 5V which is perfect but im a bit stuck on one thing.

The Input is : 100v-240v AC , can i use this in Australia ? .........im not too good with power source ratings.

hope someone can answer this

Yes, the 240v applies to you as long as the mains lead fits. But for a couple of fans that size, pretty much any old power pack that plugs into the wall that puts out 12 volts will be enough to run them ok. If you want to be sure, see how many mA the fans pull and make sure the power supply puts out that much or more and it will be fine.
