DSi firmware 1.4.2 update is out

Post by gtmtnbiker »

If you use a flash card, you may want to hold off updating to 1.4.2 until your card has an update before accessing the shop channel. It blocks a number of flash cards.

There's speculation that this update has something to do with the upcoming 3DS Shop DSiware transfer ability.

Currently this update blocks all carts except for the Cyclo DS iEvolution (which uses a different method than all the others). The R4iDSN folks have already posted a video showing their cart working on 1.4.2, and have promised the update within a week.

This is the sad thing about firmware updates for security reasons. It takes months to develop and a week to defeat. I guess that's how reverse engineering goes.

Can't beat the hackers. Don't even waste money and manpower trying.

It's a fundamental hardware flaw with the DS. There's little Nintendo can do. All they do is block the serial of the flash cart. The cart providers can change that within minutes and have a firmware update for the cards within the hour.
