I just read about this on Kotaku:

This is a cool idea. Too bad it's too strange to ever really take off.

Oh, and try putting #totalrecall in the search engine for Kotaku. There are a bunch of great retro stories in that series.

Yea this has been on here a few times in the past.

Was also featured in Retro Gamers hardware guide.

Yeah, I've known about this for years. It was in an EGM issue around the year 2000.
