How do you feel about paying extra for hidden content?

Post by BoringSupreez »

How do you feel about paying extra for content hidden on a game disc you bought?

That's the poll on Gamefaqs today. IMO, the idea of doing that is horrible. It's like those demos they used to release for PC games where you downloaded the whole game, but unless you paid for an activation code, you could only access a small portion of the game, except that you'd have to pay for a code when you'd already paid some money for the game already.

I hate the idea. I hate the idea of paying for additional content at all. When you pay for a game, it should be the whole freaking game. $40-$70 a pop isn't enough for these game companies? Movies are $8-$20 only. An entirely new expansion is one thing, but this nickle-and-diming us crap is retarded.

Is the voting over? Can't seem to select anything, but I'm happy with the results there.

DLC is absolute garbage. I hate it and it is one of the worst things to ever happen to gaming. Utterly abused and absolutely pointless. When companies drop some DLC news about a game that's not even out or just came out THAT DAY, good job, I now careless about your game. That's all it does to me thesedays.

I remember when expansion packs were amazing. It was absolutely hilarious to think that's what I thought DLC would be like.

Well, not to turn it to one of those threads, but that's console gaming for you :(

And now the plague is being spread to the PC. Civilization 5, instead of getting awesome expansions like the previous games, is getting DLC for new Civs....yeah, good luck getting me to pay for on  My country is already in the main game, so I don't care :P

I completely hate DLC. Free or not, on the disc or not, with or without DRM, it is all bullshit to me and I try to avoid games that have DLC. The only exception I will make would be for an online only game such as a PC MMO.

When it comes to regular console games, I want 100% of the game when I buy the disc. Anything else will just piss me off and make me not want to buy the game in the first place.

I really don't care to be honest as when I buy a new game with time constraints of work and juggling my video game hobby along with just general life socialising etc I don't actually finish a lot of games.

So in essence they can charge for the extra content if they want to because for most of the newer games I don't really give a damn.
For me if I was invested in a game and I really enjoyed it I'd consider buying the extra content but that doesn't really happen these days.
Last peice of DLC I bought was for Soul Calibur IV and that was because Soul Calibur is because I played it a lot and I wanted the extra character the Xbox got stiffed with Yoda which in my opinion was crap compared to Darth Vader but that's a whole different topic

If the DLC is already on the disc, and if the companies want you to pay for it, then that's BS. If it's free stuff I don't care as much, but if it's already on the disc and free then what's the fucking point of that? I don't mind DLC if it's new stuff that is neat like new game modes and stuff or levels, but stuff like alternate costumes hold no interest for me. Yeah I'm looking at you Super Street Fighter IV.

It sucks, but it is what it is. The fact of the matter is its not going away.

Everybody always says, "if you stop buying it they'll stop making it", but that isn't going to happen. DLC as we know it, hidden content or not, has only stuck around as long as it has because its a success. Popular DLC makes big bucks (just look at the stupid fucking map packs for Call of Duty that sell in the millions) and will continue to do so. A few people stopping won't get the masses to stop. :|

The only thing you can do is not spend your own money.

How is this even a question? If you enjoy paying extra for content that's already on the disc, you might be a complete moron.

The next poll should be: how do you feel about taking a square kick in the nuts?

I actually think MMOs that addict you and drag micro-transactions out of you are worse than console game DLC.

Let us not forget horse armor. PC games were doing terrible DLC long before consoles games were even capable of DLC.
