Sega Master System Price Check
Sega Master System Price Check
I'm interested in getting a SMS, but I have no knowledge of the console or it's price range these days. Can anyone help me out? What's a good price to pay?

What is your preference? An actual console or a device that allows you to play SMS games on either the Game Gear or the Genesis?
Re: Sega Master System Price Check
I wanted the actual console. Also, can it play Japanese games, or how does that work? I was checking the RB guide out and it just says "Master System games are region free between the US and the UK".

Re: Sega Master System Price Check
Well you have the two main console variations:
The big one

The smaller one

(images from the 101 article)
____
I have the larger model. Mine is in pretty good condition and I paid about $40. It came with a couple games, power and video cables, and two controllers.
Browsing ebay for a minute it seems like to get a good starter system with some games hovers anywhere from $35-55 (not including shipping).
I don't know much about the smaller model 2 variation but it appears to be more expensive than the original model.
And the Model 2 cannot play games that are on the HuCards nor can it use the 3-D glasses.
____
And as far as I know, the Mark III (Japanese SMS) games are not compatible with the North American systems.
And, yes, they are region free between the UK-US. It is more economical to import some UK titles due to the rising costs of some of the US releases.

Thanks for the info. I just don't want to overpay or anything. I definitely want the bigger model though.
Are there any high priority games that were only released in Japan (I'm not familiar with the game library either)?

Well I don't really know that much. I think I need Breetai to answer that. I think he'd know. Although, I believe that the US library still has a large quantity of quality titles. Enough to warrant a purchase of the system, at least.brunoafh wrote:Are there any high priority games that were only released in Japan (I'm not familiar with the game library either)?
Re: Sega Master System Price Check
One more question, what kind of AC cord does the Master System require? Does it use the same one as the Genesis?

From the AC Adapter Compilation Thread.
I'd say just use the Master System adapter with the Master System.Hobie-wan wrote:Sega Master System US
