The Next Generation of Retro Gamers

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

People aren't always knowledgeable about things, don't be a dick, you know what they mean. Anyway I think that you will see, at least for a period of time, retro gamers that aren't really gamers, and are just being hipsters. In the future I think you will see less people concerned about the age of the video game and it's nostalgia, and more just about the game itself.

I'm not being a dick. There's no need to be insulting.

Knowing the name of a product isn't something I would consider being "knowledgeable".

Anybody who knows enough to talk about the system at all has probably played one, and if they've played one there's no way they didn't see the large letters on the system itself proclaiming the name, or those same letters on the label of every single game that are impossible to not see. And really, I'm pretty sure people only refer to it as a "Sega" because they're so used to calling the NES a "Nintendo". I've met plenty of people who know a good bit about games, and they still say it.

Besides, its not like I go off on people with this ok? I've never once said anything about it, other than to ask, "You mean the Genesis?". It annoys me. I have a right to be annoyed. Sure I was a bit fierce about it earlier, but I just call that enthusiasm, since catchfivebats brought it up and I agree.

I have never had a problem with people calling the NES "nintendo" or the Genesis "sega". When I was a kid thats what most kids called both. If a kid wanted me to come over and play a game he would usually say "want to come over and play some sega/nintendo?" Now calling all systems Nintendo does get on my nerves, but you know what I hate more than that. People who call products by a particular brand name and not what they are. I bet all of you who hate people saying Sega for genesis say atleast one of these.

examples of only a few Genericide:
Kleenex instead of facial tissue or just tissue.
Coke instead of cola
Q-Tip instead of cotton swab
Vaseline instead of petroleum jelly
Xerox instead of copy
Duck Tape instead of duct-tape
Band-Aid instead of adhesive bandage
Brillo Pad instead of scouring pad
ChapStick instead of lip balm
Clorox instead of bleach
iPod instead of mp3 player
Frisbee instead of flying disc
Where's my chippy? There's my chippy.

Junkie: Mary Mother of God, I cut my hand on a rubber band! Do you sell Band-Aids?
Randal: Band-Aids is a brand name. The proper term is "adhesive strips".
Dante: The man is bleeding to death, and you're getting into sematics arguement?

I have two answers to this question

1. The next gen of retro gamers will be the children of people like us who visit sites like these

2. The next gen of retro gamers will be the hardcore video game buffs. Much like movie buffs who watch old, classic, black and white films or want to see a completely restored version of the movie Metropolis. I have always said that REAL fans of any entertainment medium. The ones worthy of being called "buffs" or "experts" are the ones who like to check all of the old, classic shit. They want to see the ORIGINALS, not remakes, knockoffs, etc. There are hardcore music buffs out there like Anthony Fantano who goes by the name The Needle Drop on youtube who still have vinyl

I was proud of my brother when he told me that during his computer classes he and his friends played Quake and Doom, instead of Halo like the people in my classes did. Then I told him to stop goofing around and make sure he does the work.
