Pokemon Emerald not working

Post by studentzki »

A little help needed here...
Bought a GBA SP and a NDS Lite last saturday and I got Pokemon Emerald with it.
Got home, really excited to play on my new handhelds, but I found out the Pokemon game doesn't start. It gives the gameboy startup screen, then it continues to show to copyright screens and that's it... The screen turns black and stays black.
Tried it on both the GBA and the NDS and they both give the same problem.

What can be the problem? I opened the cartridge and cleaned everything with alcohol but the problem remains. I tried other games on the consoles and they work perfect.

Is it the internal battery? Or is it something else...

TIA,

Don't know a ton about this sort of thing, but I do know that the internal battery dying wouldn't do that for any game. For Emerald specifically, I think the battery is only used for the clock-based events. Might be a boot. The Pokemon games are some of the most widely counterfeited GBA games. There are guides online for identifying.

Thanks for your tip, checked google and found this page; http://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post ... carts.html

which explains how to identify if the cartridge is genuine.
Will check tonight when I'm home...

If it still doesn't work after being cleaned, the cart is probably just broken.

Well, I checked the cart with the help of the guide I found and it seems it's a fake one.
The pcb doesn't say Nintendo, so now I have a broke fake gba cart.
Nothing to do about it...
