Best YLoD repair?

Post by thelolotov »

YLOD 40 GB PS3.

Does anybody know a good place to get YLoD fixed? Sony isn't a possibility, the seller removed the seal and broke off the screw hole for the top panel, has to be 3rd party.

Cheap is preferable, but quality is more important.

Thanks in advance guys, I really hope to be able to play my dozen or so PS3 games sometime soon! Not to mention my PS2 games!

EDIT: And preferably, some place that will only charge me shipping if they cannot fix it.

I'm pretty sure that Sony will still repair your PS3 even with the broken seal as long as you pay for it, they just won't do it for free anymore.

Really? Will they still offer a warranty?

Don't know about that. I'd look at the Playstation website for that kind of info, or try calling them.

No. (They will not offer a warranty.)

It will also cost you nearly as much to fix it through Sony as it will to simply buy one brand new. You're better off looking for third party repair.

The cost of a repair at Sony is $150. The cost of a new unit is $300. 150 is only half of 300, so I'd say it's worth going for a repair.

I'm willing to pay it, it's worth it for BWC.

Does that include their mandatory $50 shipping fee? Plus what you've already put into it?

Only put 150 dollars into it, so 350 seems fair to me, considering I have saves locked to that PS3.

This is one of my local shops, and they've always done right by me. They fixed my RROD and they can fix your YLOD. Its not some crap temporary fix, they use the reflow method.

As for the drive, I don't know for sure if they can do that, but that's why I linked to their contact page, so it won't hurt to ask.

They charged me 50 bucks for a reflow.

That's just an option though. You don't necessarily have to ship out. Don't throw away money by going through Sony. Any repair shop that does reflow (keyword there, so do some research on any local shops you've got nearby) will fix the machine properly for a fraction of the cost.

Or just send it to Level Up. They'll take care of it.
