Finally got around to finishing up the final box art comparison, this time looking at the much-maligned Famicom Disk System. Hope y'all enjoy it.

Nice!
I've always thought the Japanese box art for Super Mario Bros. was much better than the boring American one. Zelda, on the other hand, I was never a big fan of that cartoonish picture for both games.

You can just imagine the Zanac cover artist pitching a fit at the title being slapped right over the middle and destroying the lovely artwork. I always thought it was amusing that the cover and the ship counter icon resemble the hidden ship as opposed to the default one.

I live in Australia, which is a PAL zone and I have never seen that cover art to Kid Icarus, it has always been the same as the USA one. My cart even has the same graphic on it. It might just be a Spanish thing.
Great write up.
EDIT: Same deal with Metroid, Super Mario Bros.,

Thanks for the heads up on what the box looks like in Australia. I must admit that in general I play it pretty fast and loose with the releases in Europe and Australia—so many variations for the latter two, and so hard to track down a decent scan for one of those countries, not to mention them all. Glad you enjoyed the write up.emwearz wrote:I live in Australia, which is a PAL zone and I have never seen that cover art to Kid Icarus, it has always been the same as the USA one.
