Hello, got myself an IFU-30A for my pc engine without a psu of ebay. Does anyone know the dimensions for the power adaptor tip, or where to get a suitable PSU in the UK?
Thanks

Power Supply For IFU-30A
Re: Power Supply For IFU-30A
I'm not too familiar with PAL stuff, but that's an NTSC-J CD add on, right? If you look around where the power jack is located on the unit, it should specify the requirements (voltage, amps, and tip polarity). I've suggested this in another thread, go on eBay and search (for example) "9v 800mA AC adapter" and see what you get (lots of hits) and don't worry about the tip size. I don't know if you guys have Radio Shack or similar stores, but they carry just the tips for AC adapters, and every size. If you take the unit down to the store, they'll match the tip up for you. So get an adapter off eBay, get a tip from a Radio Shack type of store, and then splice it on (make sure you get the polarity correct - tip positive or tip negative). A voltage/multi meter will confirm the polarity for you, as well as the correct voltage and amps. This is what I've done in the past with great success.
I'm assuming it's hard to find the official power adapter for that console? That'd be your best bet, but you'd have to use a voltage adapter with it.

Re: Power Supply For IFU-30A
Thanks Ziggy, I know that the PSU needs to be 9v at 1.5a, it the actual tip that i need dimensions for. Un-fortunately as i'm located in something of a technological hinterland getting the tip from a shop would probl'y cost the same as the psu does off e-bay.
I was hoping if someone knew what tip dimensions or type worked with these.
The UK used to have Tandy, which was part of Radio Shack but all the stores closed down a decade ago, now I've only got Maplins, and the local one seems to be crewed by dawn of the dead extras.
Eventually I might have to lug it down there and piss them off by opening all the packs of tips until I find the one that fits, but I'd rather get one cheap if I possibly can.

Re: Power Supply For IFU-30A
You could try out a universal adapter, like this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AC-DC-POWER-ADAPT ... 2c5c4fc805
It comes with different size tips, one might fit. But honestly, those things are usually poor quality. I've used something similar from Radio Shack, it wasn't bad. Try that if you're on a budget.
Or if you want better quality, search "9v 1.5a" on eBay you'll get loads of hits. If you wanted to pick one up that looks like better quality, you could still swap the tips out. I know you said you don't have a local store to go down to, but you could buy them online. I know you said you don't know the size, but you can usually get packs of them, and they don't cost that much. Example:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TIPS-F-Universal- ... 1e5f0ea00b
That's just a quick ebay search. I'm sure you could find bigger packs, maybe even for less.
I would like to think that the dawn of the dead store would be able to find the plug size for you with out having to open up packages. Since Radio Shack carries all the tip sizes, they have a ring of them to find the appropriate size for you. I would think a similar store that sells the tips would also have ones to test the size out (so you don't have to open packages).
Also, see if you have any spare/junk adapter lying around the house. See if any of the tips fit. If they do, then just do as I said before (get any old adapter off eBay that's 9v 1.5a and then splice the correct tip on).
Good luck!
